Hi all, i am heading to the lake district from wolverhampton early Saturday morning. Are there any nice places to stop for a late breakfast and let the dog out for a bit. Preferrably North of Manchester and ideally not services but if it is the services which would you recommend for caravans with some grass.
Thanks
Probably too far for breakfast, besides which hen you get to Tenay you are almost there.
The only place with easy motorway access that has what you need is the Tickled Trout which is right by th river and right by th motorway junction 31 at Preston. Google maps show it quite clearly. I have never stopped there with the caravan, but it is quite a pleasant area. It is much changed since the 50s when I remember stopping there for a bag of chips on the way back from Blackpool with my parents ((ah happy days).

For a licence dated 1997 or later you must add together the plated max weight of the caravan and trailer, if the total is 3500 or less you can tow it. You may even tow a caravan with a MAM greater than the cars unladen mass the restriction was removed in 2013
Depends which part of the Lakes you're off to, J38/9 might be too north for you.
We've used Charnock Richard between J27-28. Like all services, I don't buy their exorbitantly priced food etc., but there is a hotel towards the back of this one with some good open ground for running the hound to the right of the hotel.
See here.
We run to the South Lakes fairly often from nr Worcester (have family there) and while Charnock is a good bit north of Manchester, it does provide a reasonable break before the final trawl.
cheers all, we are going to south lakes. the OH has found a huge tesco extra near one of the junctions where we will probably stop for breakfast. We use one by Exeter so breakfast costs £15 for 4 people and fuel is 10p cheaper a litre too. Not sure about the dog walk though!
Tbh if you're going to the South Lakes then Tebay services will be a bit too far north, you may as well continue to your destination if you get so far up. The only other one I can think of is Forton services between J32 and J33, there's a long grassy area where you should be able to walk the dog and if you have kids there's a play area too.

Thanks for that, just realised we get off at 36 so this may suit depending on traffic etc
Tickled Trout isn't big enough to stop with your caravan and to be honest is basically just a petrol station. As Tigermouse says Forton is your best bet really near Lancaster, or if you prefer to stop a bit sooner then Charnock Richard. If your not wanting a services then the only other option is to come off for the M55 and head up the A6 through Garstang. There are plenty of laybyes on this road to stop at and some have little butty vans for breakfast. you can then just carry on up the A6 and pick the M6 back up just after Forton services.
