putting all the legal stuff to one-side a minute ,i think your first port of call would be your car insurer , you may be able to access legal advice / help via their claims dept', it can't hurt to ask ,if you havn't already.

no tin tent outings booked as yet ,just another cruise in Sept' booked so far

When these things occur it is always a worry that it will not be resolved to your satisfaction. Man ya time it all works out eventually. Patience. Claim for just about everything that you can and negotiate down to what you have actually lost.

Have an independent engineer check over your caravan and ask him to give you a view as to whether the van is repairable and at what cost or should it be written off. Charge the cost of that report to the insurers. An independent report will be better considered by the other side than what they may think is your biased claim.

Phil

Thanks for reply, Driver at fault's insurance needs 2 quotes for repair's so I've got a couple of caravan repair places coming round to give me a quote, empted the van yesterday and noticed some movement inside so don't realy want it back if it is economical to repair, which i don't think it will be.

have you also had your car checked over? there could have been damage from the impact from the caravan to your car so would be worth having it checked over to make sure that there is no structual damage been caused.  17

You need to contact your car insurers as you have been involved in an accident. One of the conditions of your insurance is that they are notified in any change of the conditions stated in your application, including "any accidents claims and convictions in the last 5 years"

As the car was attached to the caravan at the time of the accident, the outfit effectively becomes one vehicle so it is worth trying to make a claim on your own insurance even though the caravan is only insured 3rd party, they will forward the claim to the other drivers insurance company.

You Should also insist your car is checked over and any repairs carried out. Specifically the tow bar and it's mounting points.

If the electrical system on the caravan was damaged, there could be damage to the electrical system on the car too although I am sure you fulfil your legal obligation and check your lights daily like the rest of us do

If you have legal protection on your insurance then I suggest you make a claim through that that way they can worry about who to make a claim against.

If you are a member of the caravan club they also offer legal advise to members so they would also be worth speaking to. If you are not a member it may be worth the £40 to join just to get their legal advise.
