Pretty careful driver, with the motto 'better late than dead' 17 - & also prepared to be considerate and pull over and stuff.

So, question - got a stabiliser thrown in with my crappy caravan :) but not the bit to attach it to the car - but, after trawling through threads on here, I think, tho I may be wrong, I'd be better spending £££ on a nose weight guage rather than the stabiliser attachment?

And as for jack pads, any better than 4 bits of wood? & do I really need a fresh water container, a washing up bowl & all the 101 things that come up under 'caravanning' search on fleabay?

Going away for the first time on Sunday to Woolacombe with my crappy caravan & the teens and doggies (yaayyy!). I've got straps & rock pegs so the awning doesn't fly away, & all sorts of stuff already! They;ve promised me a flat pitch......

EDIT: Just had new tyres fitted, caravan being serviced Thurs - it's all the 'bits' that are leaving me head scratching

If its only a small caravan I would say get the nose weight gauge.

As for the other bits I consider them essential but go away for the first time and see what you wish you had with you.

I wouldn`t consider fresh water and waste water containers anything other than essentials.

Jack pads - wood blocks
Nose weight - length of wood and bathroom scales
Stabiliser bracket - you know it makes sense really!

I would go for the stabiliser always. Others will disagree. Jackpads = block of wood ( I put blocks of wood under my jackpads being a belts & braces bloke).

Fresh water container needed to make tea. Washing up bowl needed by - whoever does the washing up.

Don't forget the glasses & bottle openers.

Oh hell yeah. You need a bottle opener.

Priority wise it's car, caravan, bottle opener.

definitely the stabiliser ,get it on BEFORE you go a white van overtaking you at speed without a stabiliser can be a terrifying experience .anything else just falls into place after a few days away ,just take a notepad to make a wish list .
mine usually starts leave the kids and dogs at home

Add torque wrench and tyre pressure gauge/pump to that lot. Milenco nose weight gauge is excellent.

If the tyre pressures and nose weight are right the 'van will probably tow very well. If the wheel bolts are set to the correct torque the wheels won't fall off. Less stress all round!
