Our caravan is kept in storage and has been broken into twice in the last month.
The first time the gas bottle was taken from the front locker.
The second time the back window has been forced open, braking the window and window catches, and marking the bodywork.
The door has been crowbarred open, leaving huge holes in the door, damaging the door frame and the bodywork.
The side and front lockers were also forced open.
The TV, iPod docking station and some other bits were taken.
Police not so helpfully, just the paperwork side of it.
I'm waiting on the insurance company to phone me on Monday.
Has anyone had experience with this, is it repairable?
At the moment the door and window can't be closed so I can't move the van, I've emptied it whilst I wait.
We're meant to be going away bank holiday and have already paid for our pitches.
I'm not very happy.

That is awful and I feel for you.
Surely your insurance company would send someone to secure your van !! Mines certainly would.

I would also speak to your insurers about securing the van because it is at more risk and they would end up paying more.

i can understand how you feel , well had our caravan broken into, they took the door.all windows.wardrobe doors.curtains, blinds, sky lites and carpets, simular to yourself we were due to go away the following week, with alot of phone calls and time spent on line we replaced all that was taken, unlucky for us we had just cancelled our insurance the month befor as my husband was out of work, what sort of people would do this?
Hope you get sorted, and this makes you feel your not the only one this has happend to.
Do the storage not have security tapes, ours did but on this occation the machine was not working ?
Good Luck

We had ours broken into while it was at the side of our house in the garden,it was at Christmas and the only damage was to the door lock.Nothing was taken and the police found the culprit It was a drunk on his way home from a party and all he did was sleep in it.It's a good job I didn't find him and the police did nothing.

I find it strange that someone asks a question on here for assistance then don't reply to the answers. I wanted to know this because if it was kept on a CaSSOA site at the time of the break in then the insurance could possibly be down to the site owners.

Tango it took me a long time to realise I had to tick the email notify. Jeff Juke had a lot of trouble looking all over to find me to give me the help I had first asked for. He taught me how to get the answers as I could not find them. Soon learnt. But then member is from 2008 so should know. Sorry about pooch, welcome home is gone that is what we missed the most a presence in the house when coming in first. The welcome home.
We put ours in the storage your talking about a good reputation, as best as they can be.Always someone rotten around of course. Insurance cheaper in one of them storage places than here at home.% off.

Tango, I'm sorry I've not responded quicker, I don't spend my whole life surfing the web, I've been busy salvaging what is left of my van.
The site is not a recommended storage site however my insurance company were happy with the company I was using.
The storage is three large warehouses, each with large lockable doors.
There are two anti ram barriers locked after 6pm every day, there is only one road in and out which is passed the owners private home.
It stores over 200 caravans, there is no CCTV, and the caravans are not insured by the storage company.
Behind the units are fields which we think the thieves are using as access to the units.
The storage company have now installed alarms to the units.
My insurance company have asked for two quotations to repair the damage.
If I want to move the caravan or need to secure it I can do so but I need to take photos before hand and keep all receipts.
I have two companies coming out on Wednesday and I'm looking at alternative storage tomorrow.
They are sure they can reimburse me my camping fees if I don't make the next trip.
Fingers crossed it all goes ok and I get payed out for all my losses.

Was yours the only one broken into? Did you have your blinds closed?
A common question on here is whether to close blinds while in storage and an argument against doing that is that your van might be a bigger target for thieves who think you may have something juicy to hide. Would be useful to try work out why your van was targeted.

suggett1976, please accept my apologies for my original post as I didn't mean it to be offensive in any way. It's sad when I hear about people's caravans being broken in to and my post was aimed to try and assist by saving you claiming off your own caravan insurance if possible which may have an effect on your renewal price. What you have to realise is that before anyone can start a business they have to first have planning permission and all businesses should be covered by an insurance policy specifically in the nature of that business. You pay you money to keep it on their land so they have to take part of the responsibility in some way for protecting your goods. If your own insurance is willing to pay out then at least that's peace of mind but I would still question this with your insurance as to what the land owner is actually covered for their insurance. I fully support you moving your caravan to a more secure site and remember, if it's a CaSSOA registered site you will definitely get a reduction on your insurance premium.
