Using the M25 first, just wondered what A road is the better as we will be travelling down to the Lewes area of Sussex, I'm leaning towards the A22, any advise welcome.
Thanks

Hi Deb, If you are towing would it not be better and easier to come off the M25 onto the M23 Brighton road and straight down to the A27. Slightly longer but a much better road. A22 is ok but have got Twells to negotiate which can be a pain, again the A26 thro E. Grinstead is ok, probably both the 22 and 26 are a take your time pleasant drive, otherwise the M23 is the hurry up route. Was down at a pub site ourselves last week near Billingshurst and must say it is a lovely area, look out for horses (and horse boxes) in the lanes !!
Mick
I suggest you use the A23 as its dual carriageway all the way. The A22 is single carriage and although a nice ride through Ashdown Forest its a "hard work" road -narrow sections, bends, and congested sections.
Ahh, your a bit north of Lewes if you are going to Bentley Wildfowl, so Google could well be right. You'll have to get through the centre of Tunbridge Wells though, which could be a bit slow.
I assume Google is taking you from the M25 down the A21 to the A26 junction near Tonbridge, so it's all dual carriageway to there.
Hi we have just come back from Brighton and have friends whom live in Uckfield, personally i would go M25, M23/A23 (approx 40 minutes from M25 to M/A27)to M/A27 for Lewes,(through the Lewes tunnel (Cunfial i think)) turn right then up to Uckfield area (sorry cannot remember road numbers). The lanes around Bentley museum are narrow though so be careful.
Hi Freckless 63
I live and work in this part of the world , as you are not actually going into Lewes itself then best route for towing is off on M23 exit East Grinstead head into East Grinstead as you enter the one way system keep to the left hand lane (Macdonalds on your left) and as you pass Macdonalds keep in left hand lane and will take you off one way system up to roundabout and take first exit on to Forest Row . Continue through Forest Row onto Nutlley , through Nutley eventually coming to a roundabout, 2nd exit here on to Next roundabout straight over onto next roundabout 2nd exit here on to Uckfield by pass up to next Roundabout straight over here and next roundabout 3rd exit this is the toad to Lewes you will see shortly after taking this 3rd exit signs on the left to Bently Wildfowl up a lane. From exiting M23 should take you about 35/40 mins.
As it was Saturday afternoon travelling there, we took your advise and used the M23, however for the return journey on Monday morning we took the A26 and A21 home, not too bad but think it would of been very slow on a Saturday afternnon, especially through the Tonbridge Wells area.
Cheers.
Deb

And for anyone else heading down the A23 towards Brighton - bear in mind there are now roadworks in for the widening of Handcross Hill (the only 2 lane section between London and Hickstead) with mandatory 40mph (average speed cameras) and this is in until 2014 - the road layout will change imminently I believe - I use it every day (sans caravan).
