A1 after morpeth,is just single carrageway till you get to edinburgh, for the volume of traffic this can cause tail backs, this road should have been dual carrageway years ago,
be better to come up the m6/m74 then over the m8 IMHO thays the way we go to hampshire and theres the added bonus of avoiding the m25 lol.are you staying at silverknowes CC site?
------------- Who needs travel agents,we have our static
Thank u for all ur help, and I like motorways more than anything so I will print off M6, M74,M8 as well as A1. I doubt there is much time difference between them
Thank u again

It isnt the north pole LOL . They have proper roads
I like the A1 then turn off just after scotch corner and use the A68 all the way to Edinburgh It probably takes longer but a much more scenic and interesting route than the A1. I have done it several times with a caravan. All part of the holiday
I would tend to favour the M25 , M11 , A14 , A1 route mentioned above if I was towing. It's reasonably straight roads, not too hilly, and I have not found the single carriageway sections too busy myself (maybe depends on the time of year you go).
M6, M74,M8 seems a bit of a longer way round. A68 (and also A702 from the M74) are a bit hilly and bendy.
The A1 isn't bad to tow on, even on the single carriageway bit. Our caravan is stored in Berwick so anytime we head South we have to use it. It's an easy towing road.

we stay just north of edinburgh and tried all routes to dover and m11,a14,a1 to edinburgh by far the better option. there is a lot less trucks on the a1 than on the m6.we do dover to home 510 miles in 8.5 hours towing, and 1 fuel stop
