Looking for a bit of help, we had a lovely two weeks holiday in the Mull of Galoway and the night before we left we took the awning down while it was nice and sunny. Once we got it down we found it was moving with earwigs. Over the last 45 years camping, motorhoming and caravaning we have found the odd few now and then but this was exceptional. I think we got them all off but I'll have to take the awning out of the bag and check it again
What I'm wondering is there anything we can use to keep them at bay ? Powder or spray ??
Agree with clever we found the same, more this year.
Just watch the wiggies bite as they do nip you.
Last year we found in just over a fortnight that wasps had started a nest going in the fold up part of the top of the folding camper we had. They had got right inside and was making themselves well & truly at home in their own home. When we went to pack up and unfurled the rubber cover there was masses of them.
Strangely a lot were dead for some reason no idea why.
Over the years I've seen some trips worse than others for " forkie-tails" as they are called around here , but this time there were hundreds of the little pests. Wife nearly done a runner :-)
Ant powder will get rid of them, but I wouldn't advise using it in an awning or camper, it's for outdoor garden use only. Sadly I don't think there is anything safe that will act as a deterrant. Bucket of water, bit of loo roll or kitchen roll and pick em up and chuck them in the bucket to drown... or can they swim? LOL.
It is the weather . We had it once when we were in a tent camping . My OH became so neurotic with it. He used to wrap everything and stuff paper in the kettle and tea pot spout that's if you use them.
But I think just give a little insect spray perhaps just before you go out . Then hopfully they might go away.
Had them last year. They were everywhere . My daughters boyfriend was lying in there part and woke up in the night with 3 of them on his chest. But the worst was when we put the dog bed outside on a nice day and one of the clips opened so the Side fell and hundreds of the buggers scuttled out of the sides. Poor pooch must of had a nightmare with them at night.

snorkels as well, so they do swim
googlel images way of course
If the wife had the same experiance as your daughters boyfriend then I think that would be the end of caravaning.
After finding them in the awning I checked the van the best I could and found one under the rubbish bag but no others. Fingers crossed we will not see that many again.
The aquaroll also had a lot under the flap that covers the filler cap, perhaps they were getting some practice in using their snorkels ?
We have seen them under zip covers and between the frame and fabric of the awning, especially after a couple of weeks in France. I don't like them but they soon scurry off when the sunlight hits them.
