So i'm going away on holiday in our caravan for the first time with the girls on my own next week. My husband doesn't drive so i'm used to towing but i'm really worried about getting a puncture as i'm disabled and won't be able to change it on my own. Also the thought of having to deal with 3 under 7s whilst sorting it out fills me with dread.

We're pretty skint right now so close to the holiday so something we could pay monthly for would be great.

Just spoke to the AA and it turns out I have cover with them (I thought i'd got it when i got the extended warranty on the car but wasn't sure and couldn't find any paperwork). They will sort out the caravan if there is a problem

The main thing to check, and get in writing is if they cover the thing being towed, when they say they will sort out the caravan if there is a problem, is this just if the tow vehicle has a problem, and they will recover the caravan too.
OR if there is an issue with the caravan, ie blow out they will attend this (they didn't used to, this was only through the C&CC, or CC club cover, it may have changed)
Also, does your existing cover give recovery to where YOU want, alot of the ones supplied with warrenties etc only recover you to their nearest garage.

Im with the RAC, cost me £90 this year, BUT covers me for both car and van, and if I breakdown on the way to my hols, cant be repaired at the roadside they will take me and the van to the site and take the car to a local garage if required, if its then unable to be repaired during the hols they will bring the lot back home too. to me this peace of mind is worth paying for.

I did use it a few weeks ago when the car cut out and kept going to limp mode when towing, but not solo, the patrol towed my van for the remaining 30 miles to the site.

We just used ours too. Through C&CC club in Europe. Was big piece of mind to know if al else failed I would get to my holiday and home again afterwards.Helen it may not be relevent but if your van is over 7metres (usually a twin axle) you will have to make sure it is covered. Tim is spot on you need to check if they cover problems with the van as well or just the car. The ones you get through the C&CC club or CC club usually seem more caravan friendly. Thinking forward if you use Tesco you can get some policies with club card vouchers but not sure which ones.

I dont think that they 'helenpage' has a caravan actually because if you look at their profile I think you find that Gelert is a brand name of tent.

TOP tip, use sites like quidco and topcashback to buy breakdown cover as you can usually get it for a LOT cheaper.

See the OP is covered already but last year I got the RAC package for £30 instead of around £90, big savings to be made.

The AA Terms and conditions state: "Assistance will also be provided for a caravan or trailer which was on tow at the time of the breakdown, provided it falls within the above limits" (which are max gross vehicle weight 3500 kg, max vehicle width 2.3m). A few years back I rang the AA to clarify what this meant and was told this would cover anything wrong with the van, such as changing a wheel on the van if it had a puncture. Now he could have been saying this just to get rid of me as I have never had to test it in real life, but that's what it says in the T&Cs and that's what I was told it meant.

I too have AA cover and I queried it to make sure my folding camper was covered, when they said yes I asked them to email me confirmation which they did and I duly printed off and now carry it with me when towing

Think T&Cs now state length too as I had little chouce once I told them length of van. However Dad uses SAGA and it does 8m van think through AA but standard AA  doesnt do 8m van. When I queeried this the man said "well we dont have the equipment for an 8m caravan"  "Oh do you have special equipment for SAGA customers then?" "Ah well erm...... it all depends on the T&Cs we have with the companies" !!! lol

My wife is disabled and we are covered by the RAC, but to have the Caravan included we have to pay extra as it is 7.3 m.
