if its on canvas ,try this it usually works plain water or better still distilled water ,no chemicals at all ,rub water in with a toothbrush ,leave to dry ,when dry use hoover best with nozzle brush attachment and hoover up as many loose spores as possible ,brush over with dry toothbrush or washing up sponge with prickly back .
this will probably leave black marks but should remove the mould and spores ,if at any time you add chemicals to the canvas it will need re-proofing so is best avoided
The quickest and easiest way is to get some Dettol mould and mildew remover from any supermarket, spray it on, leave a few seconds and then rinse it off. Simples!
Hi, we are a professional awning cleaning company based in Carlisle, Cumbria. We would have your awning collected by courier and we can clean, re-proof and return it to you like new!
only did one awning for mould and it was hard work but worth it.fixed 2 hooks on the outside wall about 7 foot up and about 8 foot apart.this was to hold the weight of the awning and give a flat surface to work on.used fenwicks cleaner and re-proofer.used cleaner fluid with a small scrub brush and then when clean hosed it down with clean water.then dried with clean towels.keep windows free of cleaner as it may mark.used glass cleaner for these.
If you take the time to allow your awning to dry properly you will never have the problem hopefully lesson learned. If left the mildew will rot the canvas and will cost hundreds of pounds to replace. We always clean our awning before we take it down especially the skirt that has been in contact with the ground. If it is wet when I take it down I dry it at home much to my wife's annoyance. It is 10 years old and looks like new. I changed my caravan a few years ago the new one was slightly bigger so rather that fork out for a new one I sent it to the Canvas repair centre. Also a tip for any one who struggles pulling their canvass through the rail I had a couple of loops sewn in and what is a 2ft long peg puller to pull the awning through. Now my vertically challenged wife can put the awning up while I sit and watch and drink my cold beer.

I bought 13 year old folding camper which needed cleaning. I cleaned outside with my jet wash using care-avan cleaner so now it looks white rather than green/grey. For the mould inside is used my steam cleaner. I just couldn't be bothered with just hot water and tooth brush. After all this I used nikwax tent &gear water proof. Awning did survive my jet wash, I did used it when it rained. Not sure of the stem wash be couse I packed it way for winter. I let you know next summer
Used this on my aircraft, not cheap but highly effective, although results are not immediate.
WETandFORGET it's Canadian but they have a UK website, and is sold (I believe ) in B&Q
We had mould form on ours while it was on a seasonal site. It is just about impossible to get rid of the mould altogether even if done professionally. It will still be there although faint.
