I've done a quick search but couldn't find the answer to my question. We currently have a towbar with single elctrics for our camping trailer. We used to have a caravan a few years ago and our car at the time had twin electrics.
We have now decided to get rid of the tent and go back to a caravan. Is it ok to just tow with the one socket - will the leisure battery get charged from the site mains when we are there ?
Had a caravan for 14 plus years now and have never had twin electrics on any of my towcars. So long as you dont need the fridge running whilst you travel then I wouldnt bother. I leave the battery on trickle charge in the garage, and put it in the van when setting off..............

I think you'll also find the reversing light on the van won't work without the extra socket, but otherwise it's just for the fridge and battery charging whilst driving. Yes, the battery should charge from the site mains.

Thanks for that we thought we had a problem with our reversing lights on the caravan.
never used twin electrics dont see the point realy, if you use EHU on site you dont need it???, or do you???
when it comes to reversing ive always had someone guide me back, how many times do you do it in the dark, please dont answer that one.
People complained years ago that they couldn't keep their leisure battery charged whilst towing plus a refridgerator would also be an extra needed requirement if possible. They invented such luxuries to make life much easier for us all so there is no reason why we shouldn't benefit from progress that was invented in the interest of all campers alike. I personally wouldn't like to be without a fridge or battery being charged whilst towing any distance as the benefits far outweight the cost of an extra socket and plug. The link below shows what is operated by both the 12N (black) & 12S (grey) socket. Hope this helps.
No twin electrics on the car but there are on the caravan. I've never had a problem, although I didn't know the reversing light was on the grey plug either! (Shall check next time I go out as the caravan is 30 years old... had it even GOT a reversing light??!)You learn something new every day on here!
Now I'm having a mover fitted (tomorrow yippee!) I'm hoping I'll never have to reverse it again, except whilst actually driving if I absolutely have to.
I just use a few ice packs and freeze meat/milk/etc I'm not using the day I get there, the fridge works like an icebox/cooler box that way. The battery 75amps lasts for over a week, but I don't have a 12v pump, just the 12v lights running off it. I have a smart charger for charging whilst away, I don't even have a built in charger!

Actually when reversing a caravan during the day whilst attached to the car, you need the light to tell the drivers behind you that you are reversing. If mine doesn't work or exist, I shall make a red flag and get someone to walk behind the caravan whilst reversing.
