Bought a German caravan last week {uk spec} and dont pick up for another three weeks was just wondering, as you do, are German vans put on the CRIS register or do they have their own registration scheme? Sorry for the stupid question but if you dont know you need to ask, many thanks in advance........Keith.......

Yes you can contact CRIS and they send you numbers to register and etch on the windows of your van. We have done this twice now with no problems. Enjoy your German Van...as we do our Dethleffs.

Having owned a brand new Abbey 420 for 18 months. The faults were endless. Leaking windows. 2 of which had to replaced. Door catches falling off. Damp. etc. Sold it to the local main dealer for a big loss. I then bought a 4yr old Tec travelking. After 3yrs owning it not one single problem. It is built like a tank, oh and yes Chris registered.

You guys on here have made my worries go away.   Had to travel from Lancs to Warwickshire to find what I wanted with the OH saying ,hope this ones not like the last.Have shown her your posts on here and she is much happier about it now, thanks folks.......

we too have a TEC travel king, - fantastic van - built like a tank, reliable, dry and solid, would never buy a UK van again... not now...

German build quality is excellent, enjoy your van !!

Hymer for us, bought second hand 3 years ago and never regretted it.   Solidly made, well designed and no damp so far.   Looked around for ages before we found the right one and looked at lots of British vans, finding damp in relatively new ones.   It was the damp issues that made up our minds to buy German.  Pity, I would rather have gone down the UK van route as I would prefer to buy British where possible but after reading on here about damp vans that were less than 2 years old, decided to spend our hard earned cash on something built to last.

Tec caravans are made by hymer in the same factory. They are lighter and less expensive.I also looked at the hymer vans, very nice but I did'nt have enough pennies.

As I say, ours was used, not brand new....we didn't have enough pennies for a new one either.

Just come back to read all the other replies following my original reply. We have a Dethleffs Aerostyle 470 which we went to Holland to buy, having found a friendly dealer on the net and actually going over to look at van before we ordered! Friends and family thought us mad! But researched what we wanted re size/layout/specification and couldn't find quality British van. We are not bothered about the full oven! We like the door on the 'wrong' side, its the right side on our drive! the van is just amazing and we love it..off to France next week!

Anne44, just come back from 3.5 weeks in france in our old battered fleetwood, cant wait till next year when we can do the same in comfort in our dethleffs, have a lovely time and thanks for your replies,it certainly has put my mind at rest.....cheers Keith.....

~Anne, who says the door is on the "wrong" side.....we have been touring now with the Hymer for 3 years and have never found the door on the "wrong" side to be a problem when towing or pitching on site.   We always make it clear to the sites we visit where the door is and there has never been a problem accomodating us.  Have you found the same?
