During winter? We do, 24/7. Keeps it cozy(ish) so I can have a coffee in there - or work on it! . . . Don`t think it uses much current, but it might help the ole girl rumble on a tad longer!

We use a small oil filled radiator on above freezing - 1 to 1.5 on a scale of 0 to 5. This is spot-on for keeping the van warm and aired throughout the winter. Plus we have been known to use it as a spare bedroom.

Our van is stored on our drive so when it is very cold (well below freezing) we sometimes leave the heater on its lowest setting . We also use it as an occasional spare bedroom!!!!
My question is would It be advisable to keep my roof light slightly open as well for airflow as I was thinking of doing this on our van over winter as we keep are able to store ours in our back garden full time.
I would rather spend my pennies on something else rather than heating the atmosphere of the UK, plus I am tight and prefer not to spend money unless I have to. So long as everything is drained down and the caravan is well ventilated it should be fine. If I want to sit in the caravan I would rather go away for a couple of days (or months!).
If it is very cold and I am going to have a few days away I do preheat the caravan for a few hours before I leave home as I don't like to put warm bedding into a cold caravan and of the structure is warm it takes less time to reach a stable temperature once on site. This only applies to journeys of up top an hour or two as the heat loss on longer trips make it less worthwhile.

The key to caravan storage over winter is good ventilation. As stated ensure all low level ventilation points are unrestricted leaving cupboard doors open if floor vents are inside. Double skinned rooflights ventilate without being opened. Stand cushions on edge & close curtains rather than leave them bunched up helps keep everything fresh.
Heating interior may well cause condensation rather than preventing it as will dehumidifying devices which hold water. So unless you are actually using the caravan, heating it just wastes electricity.
