Hi. Been persuaded by OH to look to getting a caravan after using a tent for 5 years. Looking into this our car will safely pull (based on camping club info) a caravan of 1350kg max laden weight. Its a 2009 vectra estate 1.9 diesel with max towing of 1500kg and kerbweight of 1585kg. Many 5 birth caravans are in excess of its ability. We are looking to use a caravan for quite a few years of holidays, particularly the easierness of touring in Europe compared with large tent. We like the adria 542 layout. Its great as it has the 3 fixed bunks for kids and when the double bed made up, there would still be a small table to use. And this is 1300kg! The other layout seen so far is the sprite musketeer with 3 bunks, but this wouldn't have the table free. Does anyone have other suggestions to save me hours on the net or any comments on adria caravan models. What other makes are lightweight? As a child we always had swift, but seem to be too heavy. thanks.
I don't know how many pennies you have to spend, have you looked at a lunar zenith five 1240kg mass or a bailey ranger 500/5 1271kg mass both are lightweight van for what you get inside.
The above are both 2006 van weights, so if you want newer or older they will vary somewhat.
These are just five berths with the bunks/beds at the back if you want fixed permanent bunks, then vans will be heavier, as with a lot of caravans sometimes it's all compromise.

Adopt a rescue, rescue dogs make great pets, don't support puppy farms.
The road can be tough and rough, but what you put in you get back 10 x more.

i have a adria 542 and i am using a insignia to tow it which it handles exellently i recently took it to france with the grand kids and it was exellent.
The five and six berth Adria vans are very lightweight compared to some of the UK brands. A friend of mine has an Adria and swears by them, they do seem very well made. Happy hunting and don't rush into anything, make sure that the van suits most of your needs before parting with cash.
Thanks for all replies. I can't believe how many caravans there are to look at. Been looking at loads on net Need to visit some now. In one way I'm glad I have the weight and birth restrictions to narrow it down. Still quite like the adria ones.
ADL, You've got a caravan!! When did that happen and are you pleased with it? We've also got the 500/5 and love the layout. We've had a few extras fitted to up the spec to suit our needs (rear dinette power socket, door flyscreen and an external power point).
