Hi how much a night does your electric work out at if yours is metered? With & without the use of your caravan heater. Would we be better off using the heater on gas?
The site owner has said it will be .14 what ever that means?
Personally I wish there were more sites that had metered electricity. I use very little, but still have to pay the same rate as those who have every gadjet going and then some. Another peson I know who went on a metered site was surprised at how little it cost him that way. It's usually between £2.50-3.50 per night, so if you're not a big user, it should work out cheaper.
ETA, sorry I thought you were talking about touring caravans not there permanently, rather than a sited caravan long term.
We had a metered elec pitch last September but I'm afraid I don't know about the .14 business, maybe you could ring the site and ask? For us, it worked out at just over £1 per day which we thought was pretty cheap. If you look at sites with the option of non-elec pitches, it's usually about a £3 per night difference. We used our heater quite a bit as it was a bit nippy in Yorkshire last year! I don't know how it would compare to using gas, but at least you wouldn't run out.
Thanks for the replies. Yes she probably did mean 14p per kilowatt. Usage wise the kids will want to charge their iPods (2) & we will have 2 phones to charge. I have a microwave but have only used it to warm water in the mornings for my toddlers bottle which by next April we won't need & sometimes heat up something for the kids. The tv goes on for maybe 2-3hrs per evening. We're not really tea/coffee drinkers so the kettle only gets boiled maybe once per day & that's so the rice/pasta/ potatoes cook quicker in the pan. The gas hob seems to take an age to bubble up a pan of water :o( How much electric do you think all that lot would take up?
With that little consumption you might be better with a solar panel that you could use if you go touring. From what you say the only thing that is going to make any inroads into your costs would be the water heater and that depends on just how much you use it ie showers etc. If the site has good facilities and a washing up area you may find that you don't need the hot water on all the time and a kettle would provide what you need. I would guess at less than £1 a day if you keep the water heater use to a minimum.

Seems like gas is always gonna be the expensive option. Especially when heating up the water heater; I`ve never been on an electricity metered site, but I`d bet lecki would still be the cheap option.

We use our caravan up until the site closes in December, even in the cold months when using the heating i think the most we have used was just over £2 in a 24 hour period and that was with the heating on all day and usual electric comsumption for a family of 5
