We have started the process of choosing a caravan, we have been to have a look at a few places this week and are going again at the weekend to have a look at another one.
I was wondering where you get your insurance from and are there any companies to stay away from

Discounted Insurance Quotes for UKCampsite.co.uk visitors! Up to 12.5% off!
If you look at the adverts on UK Campsite at the top right corner you will find quite often that that Caravan Guard advertise their caravan insurance and that's who I am with now. The underwriters are Royal Sun Alliance which is a sister company of 'More Than' car insurance so it's a well respected company. If you mention UK Campsite when you ask for a quote you also get a discount and my quote this year was just under £30 cheaper than most other companies apart from the Camping & Caravanning Club which was about £3 cheaper. I opted for Caravan Guard as you have to be a member of the C&CC which costs £40 per year to join so that's why I chose Caravan Guard.
I'm with the AA at the moment but I may change to the Caravan Club as their basic policy includes new for old cover if your van is less than 5 years old (if older, you'd need their more expensive policy).
I'm a member of C&CC as well but they were more expensive than the AA and the CC.

It depends on several factors as to which is the cheapest. They all seem to use differing ways of calculating risk and therefore premium. The last time I checked for my TA stored at home with shed loads of security on it, Towergate were the cheapest but did not have the best policy, closely followed by Caravan Guard and then CCC with most expensive being CC. I opted to use Caravan Guard but I will find out how good they really are if I have a claim. For many years CCC were the cheapest on my older caravan so shop around and play with differing security arrangements to see what comes up.

We were with Caravan Guard for years. Competetive prices, good communication etc, we happily paid our premiums for peace of mind.
In 2010 we suffered some storm damage and made our first ever claim.
We had such problems with the underwriters and their loss adjusters, we ended up sorting out the repair with the workshop ourselves and eventually were left about £700 out of pocket after being offered £47 for a 1 year old awning.
The experience upset us that much we sold the caravan, gave up our caravanning and went back to an uninsured cheap trailer tent that we just use for holidays.
I don't know if an other company would have been any different, but Caravan Guard and their associates are a set of robbing ba$***ds, steer clear.

This year I had my renewal quote of £149 and then it was discounted by £49 as I have not made a claim in the last 3 years and so I was very pleased with £100.
Depending on where you store your caravan will also depend on your costs too, and whether you will get insured. We store ours on a working farm and not alot of insurers would insure us for that reason but the CC would regardless of where we stored it.

Caravan Guard seem to have the cheapest headline rate, but by the time I purchase the extra security needed to comply with their T&Cs they are a lot more expensive than the CC.
There are several competitive and reputable companies out there, there is also (at least) one (don`t think we can name them on here) that must be avoided at all costs. If you have a trawl you will find them, they offer insurance for many things including Equine and Livestock.

We are with Caravan Guard and our premium actually came down by £20 this year ( second year ).
Not put a claim through them but they were the cheapest I could find by a good margin ( not that I think price is the only factor )and despite the post above there is very little criticism of them that I could find.
If you ring or e-mail them they are very friendly and helpful.
