There are many topics to cover and much to consider but the best advice is to purchase the 'Caravan Handbook' by John Wickersham as it explains everything you need to know about caravanning plus you can keep it for future reference if you have any problems. A few of the topics in the book cover buying new and second hand caravans, matching car & caravan, noseweight, awnings, gas, battery & 12 volt electrics, 240 volt mains, tyres, security and much much more. There is currently one on Ebay without any bids but it's a good investment if you are buying a caravan.

Oh that's a lovely shiny van I love it..... must have it.....

Don't fall for that approach. Everyone selling their van cleans it up and it will look splendid.....you need to know what to look for.......

You make no mention of your budget but our Pageant Provence Series7 was advertised on free ads yesterday Battie. It's a perfect family van & is a 5 berth & a good price considering what's included. You're more than welcome to come and have a look to see what's there with no obligation what so ever. Obviously I'm bioss but someone's going to get a good van with this one.

That having been said, if I was in your boots right now I'd visit a few dealers to see what was on the market, what sort of money they're asking & what sort of warranty is available on their stock. The market is huge & it can become an enjoyable hobby just looking round a few.

Our local dealer has quite a wide selection on offer so I guess most dealerships choice of vans would be about the same. I'm not an expert by any means but I will say, when you walk in the door of a second hand van your nose will normally tell you if there's a problem.
