someone out there ,please help. i am having problems with my powertouch caravan mover. it is approx 6 years old and has worked perfectly until a few months ago. this is what is happening: go to compound and hook up van with the aid of mover;arrive at site and find that the mover is dead. check on it for the next 5 days with the same result-dead. on the 6th day i try it and find it works ok. arrive back at compound 4 hours later and find mover does not work again. the 110amp battery is new and the remote has new batterys so i just dont know what is happening. i have contacted powertouch but they just say to check the amps when under load. i dont think this is the problem.  has anyone else had this problem.

Hi -

i had a similar intermittent problem and found it was the battery terminal connections. Connected well enough for running 12v in the van but not the load required for the mover. Cleaned and tightened them and all was ok.

In my case would turn the rollers when not engaged but not when on the wheels.

sounds like your new battey is low (not being charged in storage),ie.not enough power to operate the mover.remove battery and charge it at home to full.to test try running the mover NOT connected to the wheels if the rollers turn ok and do not work when connected to the wheels, then nearly always the battery is at fault. if the rollers do not run off the wheels it could still be a flat battery as it needs to be 12.7 volts to be fit for use with a mover.

unit fails to operate....reset the isolation switch by turning off and remove the key for 15-20 seconds and then turn back on again.the green light on the electronics box should be illuminated.

unit fails to operate....check battery voltage of the hand set is correct.an indication of this is the green light slowly flashing on the hand set.this can also be checked by using the emergency cable(remove hand set battery for this)

unit fails to operate or moves intermittently....radio interference.check by using cable with hand set battery removed.

unit fails to operate or moves intermittently........badly connected or corroded terminals.check battery terminals.clean and reconnect.

a fully charged main battery is a must.

could be a faulty hand set i had one of these one time.

from hand book hope it helps.

Certainly sounds like the battery is low to me, though poor battery connections will give the same symptoms. As already suggested, take the battery home and fully charge it. The onboard charger only charges 80%

i had a motor fault with this problem.easy fix.peeled back the rubber cover and pulled out the blades to clean them.this was done by the mover engineer.

We had exactly the same symptoms on our new Orion and Reich mover.

Turned out it was the brand new Elecsol battery that wasn't holding any charge.

Returned it to the dealers and swapped it for another and all was OK.

So just because you have a new battery doesn't mean it isn't faulty.

Ian

Hmmmm interesting one, like one or two other posts, check all of the terminals are tight, I had a similar problem and it was aloose terminal.

I know you said the battery is new, but get the battery checked to make sure it is holdin its charge, from what you say it sounds like it could be a battery problem. Also i it charging properly?

Lastly you could try checking that your remote signal is working properly and not just intermittently, try taking the remote battery out and connecting the Powrtouch buddy lead direct to your remote unit rather than wirelessly?

Do you know I was wondering the same thing! Just had one fitted to my van. They are very expensive items and really shouldn't be problematic at the price we pay. Mine had better not be!

thanks everyone for your interesting comments. you may be right, perhaps the battery is faulty. before i purchased this one i did a bit of research and was more confused than ever. my old man gave me the following advice many years ago; never buy the cheapest or the most expensive; go for the middle. will be taking it for a test tomorrow;
