You can use anything to hold the awning frame down. We use something much simpler, plastic string! it costs pennies & does the same job. I never leave home without a bag of it in the front locker. I simpily tie it around the joint of the awning frame, push it out through the hole in the canopy & run it down in line with the awning leg to a ground screw, tie it off just "tight" not pulling the frame down but just "tight" & with the straps on the canopy holding it to the frame the awning can't go anywhere. Ours just survived three very windy weeks in Cornwall & never moved an inch.
