I'm sorry....but we could get burgled just going to the shop , there'd be no cars o the drive at all?!? Our van comes home the Wednesday before we set off for either the weekend...or the week. Surely that's a clear signal too...or the fact that i've no washing hanging out?

I'm looking forward to my teenfree hangout....you all enjoy your van which ever way you want to as well

It's in our title deeds too but we bought our van from a solicitor and she said that the terms only stand for 10 years? Either way, no-ones objected and if they do they can pay my mortgage. We don't keep our at home all the time as MIL has plenty of room.

In my case i am home 24/7 and when we go away one of the cars (Has Alarm Fitted) sits where it normally does and we leave the House Alarm on and a night light and we get someone to check the house .  (I would love having our caravan on the drive with a Post in front of it  but it would stress me out and i would be checking it all the time to see if anything got stolen like the cassette toilet and the water heater has been took )

But the choice is yours to make (geoki)

The issue of vans on the drive and burglary has been raised on here many times before.

For myself, we live in a small village with a very low crime rate so the risks are much lower. Frankly I go away and don't worry about it.

My parents lived in neigbouring town, didn't have a caravan at all, cars parked on the drive and were burgled twice in three years, once when they were abroad on holiday and  once at knifepoint when my father was watching Emmerdale!

Sometimes in life, you just have to weigh everything up and take a decision on things.

We are in the same situation as you. Quiet village, very low crime rate, daughter at home, car on the drive etc. We have also put a whole summers thought into how to give me space from our DD that is now at home 24/7 having quit school just before getting written diagnosis of having aspergers. It was either extend drive way, or look at spend 4 times as much on a permanent building in the back garden.

As i said this is a win win situation for all of us and i can't wait!!

They would be hard pushed to steal ours, not saying they couldn't, if they really wanted it but not only would they have to walk up our drive past our front window they would then have to go through and unlock 6 foot double gates, into the back of the garden ( theres no way out of our back garden its just trees and scrub) but that time I hope they would of given up but if not they would then have to remove the post and then the hitch lock and wheel lock, we live at the end of a culd e sac, so not a through road, and unless you know the van is there you cannot see if from the front of the house. Hopefully that will keep it safe, but its insured so there's not much else I can do, I don't worry about things like that, I refuse to live in fear of what ifs, the same applies to house burglary, I'm just living and enjoying the now.

we keep ours on the drive as it is conveniant no storage costs to pay and save fuel by not having to get it or drop it off. as it has already been said it is used by family when they visit and i go watch the tv in there ( wife and kids hog the remotes) As for being burgled it can happen weather your van is there or not and you won't enjoy your holiday if your fretting about it so i give it no thought. We have family and good friends close so the house is checked on a regular basis oh and the cat gets fed too lol

even caravan owners need loving so please be patient when behind me!      do forgive me for driving so close to the front of your car!!

Well you are lucky we brought our van out overnight and with the house being new the next day or so we receive a letter either move it because it not allowed on your tittle deeds when we brought the house we told them we have a caravan no problem if it just out overnight so we kept the letter and now they  let us do that ....

Well that's the driveway started . Currently looking out on a mini digger sitting in the middle of an earthy trench.

[One of DS friends came to the door and asked if he was coming out to play. I said that he wouldn't be as if he looked at the ditch behind him....that's where i was gonna hide his body! Thankfully his pal knows me well enough by now to realise i was joking ]

Good luck with your drive. I keep my caravan on the drive, I couldn't afford storage. When I go away I'm usually with a friend who parks her car on the drive, and I also ask the neighbours if they will park their cars on the drive occasionally or ask their visitors to. As we have a shortage of car parking around here, they are happy to oblige!

Well job done.

Returned from our break to a brand new strip of tar where there once was grass. The contractor came back past yesterday afternoon to see if we were happy and said we could now park the van here. So it's home....can now clean it and empty out the things we'd left in it as we had just placed the caravan back in storage when we returned.

So cuppy on the drive anyone?

Yeoki you will love keeping it at home.

We like you had half our front garden put to driveway and now it is big enough to have the van at home with cars in front of it. The benefits to me outweigh the disadvantages.

I love the fact that I can wash the van or polish it at any time, take it out at short notice for a weekend away and when coming back can actually go home with it, not have to go miles off route into storage. We keep power to it regularly like Michael, makes a good emergency sleepover facility for a relative if they come down for a weekend etc.

As for security on the drive, there have been caravans stolen from some storage compounds and if like us you have some neighbours around us that are home during the day who 'miss' nothing I feel the caravan with its multitude of locks it safer on my drive with two cars in front of it at night and one during the day is safer at home than in storage.
