Hi should the Truma Ultrastore drain valve be fitted to the hot or cold side?

We have been having problems with our 2012 Truma Ultrastore fitted to our caravan. The hot water flow from the taps has always been slow. Then lately the boiler would not completely fill or prime. The pump will cutout then when a tap is opened it will just spit and splutter then the pump would come back on with no tap flow.
Upon investigation i found the flexible hose between the hot outlet and the drain valve was kinked due to a tight bend and the heat of the pipe. When the kink was straightened the tap flow increased and the boiler primed properly.

But now thinking about it if the drain valve is on the hot outlet which is higher than the cold inlet. Then surely the boiler is not being completely drained when the drain valve is opened.
Should the drain valve be on hot water outlet?

It should be on the cold water feed pipe just before it is connected to the Truma and below the level of the  connection.

The hot side will come from the top of the tank as heat rises, so the drain should go on the bottom which will be the cold inlet side.

Our caravan is in storage so i will have to double check it and take photos next time we go.
If i was mistaken about the valve being on the hot outlet would there be any reason for the cold feed pipe being red hot?

Could be that the heater is plumbed in backwards. You would still get hot water if it was but it would run cold quite quickly.

running hot on the cold pipe could be a non return valve fault ie.draining back into the barrel.this makes the tap operation poor.the taps can splutter or take a time to come (delay) on or not have the same force leaving the tap .see old truma email.

The non return valve would be located somewhere on the cold feed to the boiler, the water sounds as if it is backfeeding into the aquaroll and the non return valve will need replacing.
