Hi following on from my thread ' using the caravan as a bedroom on the drive' thought I would ask you what your opinions are of travelling with the front lounge made up into the double bed.
We have done this before when moving on from one site to another and had no problems.
As the caravan will have the bed made up for at least a month while the builders are here, when we come to go away in it is it worth making the bed back to settees or leave it as a bed?
Can't see any problems but sure I will get advise from you all.

Unless you have ventilation, ie slats under mattress cushions the undersides of cushions might get a bit damp eventually, so stand cushions up for the day every fortnight or so while you are using it. When caravan is not being used for a period of time its good to stand cushions on edges if you can.
I don't know the answer but am glad you asked as I also wonder. We have a double dinette. We make up the other end as a double with a bunk over but take it down each time we leave. Can you leave it as long as you allow air to flow especially in winter?
We used to leave our previous 2 double, as one made up double and one lounge, never had a problem, like said earlier, with slated base and ventilation. Make the caravan work for you x
We had a van with double bed/dinette at the fron and a 3 seat/ double bed at the rear for several years. We left the front bed made up all the time - including during our usual 5 week european summer tour. Not a problem. We now have a fixed bed and find it less useful - but there you go.
The double bed is of the wooden slatted style, we do stand the cushions on end in the middle of the van when leaving at the site for the winter and know we wont be using it again till the spring.
The main thing I was concerned about was the travelling with the bed all made up, however I think we shall not be bothered to make to settees for a 100 miles only to have to pull it all to pieces again.
We distibute the contents sensibly and don't pile the bed with much.
As others have said with double dinettes and I would do myself if we had that layout, they leave one end made as a bed all the time.

ignore the weight distribution if the bedding is below the seats the weight of the bedding is negligible in that respect
re distribution of weight have you noticed in so many vans these days that the battery box the water store the fridge the oven the microwave are all on one side of the van? how on earth do we balance the wight side to side when the manufacturer breaks the rules to start with?
We have a double dinette van and I make up the front double when we are going away so it is made for our overnight stop. We have a foam mattress made for the other end and use this as a double bed made up all the time when we are away.
