Sorry to put you all through it again.......

I've just had a quite from CC for £500+ for my new van which is a little concerning

So, i had a go on Insure My Caravan that i found on here.

They listed Amtrust, Protect & Go, Carasure, Caravan Protect and K Drewe.....

All sub £250, all SEEM to have the right stuff..... So who is good, bad or indifferent please??

Thanks
Jim

Is that with the discounts you are able to claim. Mine seemed pricey to start but get discounts for  the Alko wheel lock, Trailer control etc. I also upped my voluntary excess and save about £87 as it I would not want to make a small claim and then lose my no claims discount.. My van is new this year and mine cost £357. Maybe even thats too much but I just feel more at ease with th CC insurance.

Superb marketing by the caravan club, their insurance and breakdown products are way more expensive that anywhere else (for the same services) and yet people are happy to pay more because they trust the CC brand

Insure My Caravan won the business, very helpful, sorted a couple of referral items out whilst I was on the phone, went through all the info - which I shouted out from the CC website, and they gave me the same level of cover & breakdown as the CC options, with the van stored on a farm, without a direct connection to the CIA FBI or NASA for £260.....

Happy bunny

Mayday recovery is cheaper to buy than a similar product direct from Green Flag, my premium for the year with home start twin trip cover, accommodation if necessary and a chauffeur if I am I'll cost me £89 a year, much cheaper than the AA RAC Brittania recovery and most others. My caravan insurance costs me less than I can get from anywhere else, I check every year and they do not increase their prices year on year and offer cheaper quotes to new entrants.

I fail to see where you have got your information from.

For a licence dated 1997 or later you must add together the plated max weight of the caravan and trailer, if the total is 3500 or less you can tow it. You may even tow a caravan with a MAM greater than the cars unladen mass the restriction was removed in 2013

The proof of any insurance is how they deal with a claim...
speaking from experience I will always use CC to insure my van, very prompt assessment of claim and repair done quickly by workshop of my choice. More expensive?, not much in it in my experience. I too would choose mayday over others if I did not already have cover provided with the car.
Careful choice of excess can reduce premiums as said, and also the other discounts BUT read the small print, we decided not to take the discount for the Alko lock as it is sometimes difficult to level the van and have it lined up (Yes I know I can jack it up and spin the wheel).
Also check any other insurance gives you new for old as the CC quote this automatically on a new van.

Caravan Guard normally work out the best for me and yes I have had a rather hefty claim which was handled very quickly (except the independent loss adjuster who took his time to send off his report)with no quibbles or queries. CC have always worked out most expensive for me for same cover. CCC work out somewhere about mid range. I think it all depends on where you live, your age, type of caravan and security discounts permitted.

I suspect where the van is stored is a big issue too..... My storage had to be referred, because it is a farm site, but NOT being used to store any vans other than my own.
I had to speak to the under writer myself and he was fine once i explained that i part owned the premises, it was a working farm, and the van lives outside the tenants windows and it's not known for van storage

Ttfn........ Roll on Top End Farm this weekend

Seems to me that once the insurance company has captured your business they increase the premium each year following. I find it pays to shop around every few years, just saved over £200 on the car insurance by returning to Saga after 4 years with NFU. Certainly be sniffing around again when the van insurance is due.......Mick

We are insured with CC and whilst it's not the cheapest (and certainly won't be after our claim), we are more than happy, van stolen on 25th September and have already been authorised to purchase a new one. So we wll be staying with the CC.
