Do they make mains electric caravan motor movers? All you would need is a long lead? We all have electric at home and I never go to sites without electric. Much more powerful than a battery. My sister's new caravan has no battery so she is going to have one fitted so she can get a mover.
Fred.
For use at home you don't need to fit a battery to use a mover.
Clearly for our 12 volt movers we need a battery but it can be a portable one.
My van has a GEL battery which whilst it can power a mover it is not advisable and particularly with our power demanding drive. So I keep at home a 85AH portable battery I place on the van floor and couple with snap on leads. When not in use the battery lives coupled up to a CTEK charger so is always fully charged ready for use and doing this means you don't need a particularly heavy one.
Obviously this does not cover on site use, where if needed I can still use the van's battery. However I don't often need to use the mover onsite.
Doing this would be a very cost effective solution for your sister, if the onsite limitation can be accepted.
Isn't the whole point of a mover to make the van was to move? Tying it to the house sort of defeats the object.
I am sure 240 volt motors could be fitted but the control circuit is low voltage so you would need to add a transformer.
Single phase AC motors don't reverse as easily as DC motors so need twin windings. The motors would probably be three times the price so you would end up paying more for a product that was inferior to the 12 volt models.
If you are just having a battery fitted to run a mover, then it will last a long time anyway. I can't see any other method of powering one without it being complicated and expensive. It's just easier to buy and fit a battery.

It is however neither easy or safe to fit a battery in a van without the built in provision for battery storage and servicing.
My sister is having her mover and battery fitted by a large caravan company so they should know the best place to site the battery. It is a big two axle Hobby. I just wondered if electric ones were available that could be used at home and on sites. It seems not. Thank you for your replies.
