Hello all, I'm looking for some advice. I hooked the caravan up to the house via the usual connections. Once inside the caravan I tested the RCD as usual. I switched the power on and pressed the test button and as expected the power switched off. The problem is that the button has now stuck in even when the power has been disconnected obviously something is not right but I thought that the button would pop back out once the power was completely disconnected. Is there an internal fuse that has blew in the mains unit? I took the cover off to have a look but put it back on when I realisled that it wasn't going to be a simple job.
Could it be that the switch has tripped to it's mid-way 'trip' position and need a proper reset?
To reset, the switch must be put to the fully 'off' position first, then back to 'on'.
Check and let us know.

Thanks for the reply, it's pitch black now, will give it a try tomorrow. I have tried switching it off and on and it didn't make a difference, but will try again tomorrow. I was going to try the water pump ( a problem from a few weeks ago) so that will have to wait!
I will let you know the results. My boys are disappointed, we were going to have a sleepover tonight.
If after trying a reset as above try tapping the rcd lightly to see if the button pops out.The test button only tests the mechanical function of the rcdand does not prove electrical operation. It does sound as if the rcd has gone faulty though. In any case i would suggest you get the rcd replaced and the new unit tested by a electrician
A wee update, I was to impatient to wait until tomorrow. I tried putting the switch up and down Paul but it made no difference. I tried tapping and the button did pop out. I switched the power back on, tested it and it went off... and the button stuck again. The button is the problem, to be on the safe side I will get it replaced.
Thanks for the help, I will get the water pump tested tomorrow. I'm not too impatient to try that in the dark.
There is no chance of me being killed as I do not mess about with electricity but thanks for your concern. As suggested by Bignod I will be getting the button replaced when the caravan get its service.

Thanks for all the help everyone.
I wasn't aiming that comment at any one in particular, but noticed a few silly suggestions had been posted with foolish and potentially lethal suggestions.
How old is the caravan? It's worth checking whether the RCD manufacturer has any extended guarantee. MK for example have a 10 year warranty on their Sentry range. So worth a phone call to find out.
