Hi,it sounds like you have a fault with the pump that we had.When we switch ours on on the control panel,it only cuts in when needed (ie tap on).Stays on for a while initially,but once full turns off until tap is put on.But it started running constantly and was noisy all the time-took it into dealer and all repaired,really cheap too (can't remember exactly what it was sorry).

You can have it on electric only-its the switch in the control panel on the floor (says water heater).That puts it on electric only.

It only usually runs for a few minutes to fill up after draining down.Let it fill,then turn the taps on (we usually put the kitchen taps on first,then the bathroom once the kitchen ones have stopped splurging to get air out of the system).

There's also a pressure control screw on the pump itself under the seat.OH has had to 'tweak' this a few times to stop the pump running when it shouldn't.(There should be a bit in the manual about how to do it).
