I am trying to convince her indoors that we will be ok in winter for a few days in our old van, she went into it the other day just to make sure everything was ok and she said it was freezing in there and the seats was so cold cos she had a sit on them, we don't have warm air heating/ central heating just a normal fire heating now what I want to know is will the seats warm through or will they be cold cos we also sleep on them too.
Thanks
When we had older vans I was adamant we wouldn't go after October, then my better half persuaded me one november in the freezing cold, I was determined we wouldn't like it but loved it. Have never looked back since and now we go all year, nothing like coming back to a cosy van, pulling the curtains and having a hot toddy and cosy cuddles

We have never been away in our van in the winter months and to be honest I would rather stay in my warm and cosy house in the winter. But if you take an extra heater and plenty of warm bedding, will you be ok? I dont know but if you dont try it you will never know. I hope you enjoy it and please post on here and let us know how you get on.

Minus 19 in the Cairngorms!!! No problem in our old Globetrotter. We had propane gas in the gas fire and an electric blow heater for back up. The caravan is easier to keep warm than your house as it is smaller. Heating the van is not the problem but keeping the water running is. However keep water in the van at all times for brews and use the site facilities for everything else. In Scotland most sites have underfloor heating and hot power showers, choose carefully. We have had better weather later in the year than in summer so go enjoy I feel sure you won't regret it.
Hi loads of people caravan thro the winter as we do. We have an Adria 542 Uk however it does not have electrical heating only gas fire. We have a 1.5 KW oil filled radiator which is on low/middle setting all day keep the van warm, as most others would do with their own caravan electrical heating systems. We change all the Duvets to winter ones and light summer blankets to more heavy winter ones. Clothing as appropriate for winter and the small awning to keep the chill off, and allow for drying /storing of wellies and winter coats. We love winter caravanning, the country side is a whole different place in winter as just as beautiful. Even in the snow.
Aside form the heating its all a matter of keeping the waterpipes from freezing. Keep the water well insulated and off the ground, we use a hot water bottle/cyclinder cover and a large black bag along with the grey pipe insulation, never had any problems. Oh and dont forget Propane gas for winter use, as butane will freeze if its too cold.
We used to use our old van in the winter too. The van we have now is blown air but we never use it. As above, oil filled rad and gas fire keeps it cosy.
Nothing like Whitby pier on Christmas day!
As we speak we are in our 1994 Elddis at the horse and jockey caravan park, Churchstoke, Powys. its a lovely sunny day and not too chilly, Later on we will meander down to the bar, have a nice meal and a couple of pints before retiring back too our snug little van and 15 tog duvet. Cant beat it.
Years ago we used to winter caravan in our 1977 sprite alpine with glass windows and no built in heater ,we used a oil filled panel radiator plenty of blankets lovely and cozy with the gas light on

Tony that reminds me of my old 1970 Monza and when using that in the winter you were less worried about outside pipes freezing and more worried about the inside pipes freezing. Ice on the inside of the windows in the morning and having to keep the rooflight open to reduce the condensation on the walls. At least the milk did not go off which it did in warmer weather as we had no fridge. All good fun with lots of duvets, sleeping bags and multi layered clothing. I used to love it but there again I am bordering on being insane!

We've just come back from a few cold nights away and use a portable blow heater to ensure the air circulates on those cold evenings. It was cosy despite the frost on the car window the next morning.
One thing I'll do in future though, is leave the toilet door open as it was bloomin freezing when I got up to use the loo.
My little caravan has glass windows, very thin insulation in the walls and no form of heating at all.
I love going away in the colder months - I just make sure I have warm PJs, fleece blankets and my Duvalay so I sleep well. A hot water bottle is a welcome addition during very cold spells. During the days I like to get out and about, walking and visiting new places.
I was away this weekend - temperature on Friday night was down to -2'C and I was lovely and cosy until the strong winds during a blizzard blew my skylight off so had to come home a day early.
