We are away on site at the moment and my husband has a habit which is a bit annoying. He constantly switches off the ultra store water heater as he's worried about something burning out if its on constantly. Thing is there's never any hot water available so it's like an immersion heater switch back on and wait 20 mins before we can wash dishes or shower. So basically he's very efficient at turning it off but rubbish at putting it back on again at key times.

I'm just wondering what others do and what the real pro's and cons are?

We keep ours on, the system has cut out switches (fuses, relays etc) so we have no concerns about blowing the water heater.
If you are constantly switching it on then you are incurring extra cost ie electric which may not matter if you are on a all inclusive cost

We always leave ours on when on-site and have never had any problems. Surely once the water gets up to temp then the thermostat will only switch it on when needed, so it's not actually on constantly.

When I had a separate water heater I turned off when going out for the day. Insulation should keep water fairly hot if not in use, will only get cold if when you come back you start using the hot water but don't turn the heater on again.

I always treated like immersion at home, never left on all the time.

We leave the Ultrastore on all the time, without any problems.

It doesn't need turning off and on like that - make him behave himself!

Leave it on. Its all extra wear n tear making it work from cold. As advised it will only come on when demand is there. How many vans do you know of burnt out due to boiler faults?

No and no actually, this just seems to have niggled him. However, thanks to showing him your opinions I now have hot water 24/7 - now that is what I call a result!

Good result!  We leave ours on (electric) all the time except when we have only 10a to draw on. Then we might bring in the gas too.  If you leave the gas part off, you end up using hardly any . . . ..
