Hi Guy's. recently purchased a new van from NEC show (our first!!!).

Whilst looking at the spec it said we have an alko wheel lock reciever but after speaking with the dealer not the actual lock.

Are these really worth the £295 they are quoting me.

I appreciate it will reduce the insurance and the Van is already fitted with a tracker ( or will be when made).

From what I can see it will reduce my insurance by approx 10% but the insurance is £300 per year so would welcome your views.

the Van will go into storage when not in use.

Thanks in advance

Alko sell the locks direct and did have 25% off everything on their website very recently. We bought ours off ebay, brand new never registered for £85 so maybe worth you looking on ebay.

We do use ours when I remember to put it on BEFORE i put the steadies down.

Possibly wouldn't bother to buy one though. Ours came with the van. I would do a deal with the dealer to include one in the sale or have you missed the boat?

It was so much easier with a standard wheel clamp but I understand why we must use it. Ours also came with the van.

Hi Johnks,

too late on the deal, didnt even know what they were until we got home. i guess i will have to put down to expiriance.

Who is Darklord and how do I get in contact, sorry bit of a technophobe.

I can find out wheel size. Not in a mad panic rush as the van is not due to be delivered till next april .

Thanks for all the replies!!!!!

Greetings,

On a similar vein I have just been on the Al-Ko site and they now sell the lozenge of the wheel lock without buying the whole assembly.
This means that current owners who change caravans do not have to go through the expense of changing the whole lot, using their existing barrel, screw assembly etc.
The cost for the lozenge is £92 currently.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

I have posted about these before (I have the ones supplied with the twin axle Elddis, not Alko but similar principal and for the reasons Ralle 550 mentioned I hate the things!

In fact I told my insurers that whilst on site, I was only going to use one of them on my twin axle and on the other wheel I would use a Milenco wheel clamp. I did not want the hassle of jacking up the van to align two of them, even though I lost the extra10% discount they give when using both. Frankly I would pay them not to use them, I too have unhitched, levelled the van feet down and then remembered I have not aligned the receiver Grrrrrr movers on faffing about, only did that again on our last trip out to Devon with the van two weeks ago and it was pouring with rain, got soaked messing about trying to get the thing aligned.

I do however on site use rear leg locks, hitchlock and two wheel locks, one Milenco and one through the wheel lock. In fact writing this I can feel the irritation just thinking about the hassle of that  lock, In fact, I am going to call the CC tomorrow morning and tell them I want to use two Milencos for the wheel locks on site, even if it costs me more premium LOL.

Again thank you for all your replies.

I dont take delivery until next april but if I understand are you saying that I only need to buy the lozenge(Sorry whatever that is)

On a second note and going off on a tangent. today we have rec'd the order confirmation from the dealer on top of the £15.1/2K i spent on a new van they are now asking for a further £20 for a number plate plus an extra £30 for a 12 pin /12V adaptor.

are they taking the you know what?

or am I just expecting too much? I would have thought these would have been in the price. I know its only a £50 but surely that should stay in my pocket.

would welcome your views to hear if they are trying it on or not

thanks again

Jay

I think they are definitely taking the wossname, I've never had to pay for a number plate. As for it being too late is there no cooling off period regarding the deal? If I was you I'd look on tinternet for the adapter if the dealer wont play ball.

The 'Lozenge' is the big lump of red and black metal that fits into the gap in your wheel. That's the part that Al-Ko will sell seperately. All the other stuff, (Barrel Lock, Keys, Screw threaded bolt Security 'Key' that fits onto the bolt and Brace you can transfer onto the new lozenge.

It will then be a case of being able to sell on your old 'lozenge' rather than the whole lot.
