Hi Guy's. recently purchased a new van from NEC show (our first!!!). Whilst looking at the spec it said we have an alko wheel lock reciever but after speaking with the dealer not the actual lock. Are these really worth the £295 they are quoting me. I appreciate it will reduce the insurance and the Van is already fitted with a tracker ( or will be when made). From what I can see it will reduce my insurance by approx 10% but the insurance is £300 per year so would welcome your views. the Van will go into storage when not in use. Thanks in advance

The first question our insurers asked when we called to change vans to a twin axle was did we have them and they insist on them being used. They are a pain. I keep forgetting to make sure the wheel is in the right position before I unhitch. We've got a mover now so it's easier. It was so much easier with a standard wheel clamp but I understand why we must use it. Ours also came with the van. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- I have posted about these before (I have the ones supplied with the twin axle Elddis, not Alko but similar principal and for the reasons Ralle 550 mentioned I hate the things! In fact I told my insurers that whilst on site, I was only going to use one of them on my twin axle and on the other wheel I would use a Milenco wheel clamp. I did not want the hassle of jacking up the van to align two of them, even though I lost the extra10% discount they give when using both. Frankly I would pay them not to use them, I too have unhitched, levelled the van feet down and then remembered I have not aligned the receiver Grrrrrr movers on faffing about, only did that again on our last trip out to Devon with the van two weeks ago and it was pouring with rain, got soaked messing about trying to get the thing aligned. I do however on site use rear leg locks, hitchlock and two wheel locks, one Milenco and one through the wheel lock. In fact writing this I can feel the irritation just thinking about the hassle of that lock, In fact, I am going to call the CC tomorrow morning and tell them I want to use two Milencos for the wheel locks on site, even if it costs me more premium LOL.

Again thank you for all your replies. I dont take delivery until next april but if I understand are you saying that I only need to buy the lozenge(Sorry whatever that is) On a second note and going off on a tangent. today we have rec'd the order confirmation from the dealer on top of the £15.1/2K i spent on a new van they are now asking for a further £20 for a number plate plus an extra £30 for a 12 pin /12V adaptor. are they taking the you know what? or am I just expecting too much? I would have thought these would have been in the price. I know its only a £50 but surely that should stay in my pocket. would welcome your views to hear if they are trying it on or not thanks again Jay
