Hi Guys

have purchased a new van being delivered next april

my question relates to relay services for the caravan in the chance of breakdown.

My car is a lease car and is covered directly by the manufacture but this only covers the car. If I have any problems with the caravan and need relay what do others do?

Do ineed to get a seperate policy just cover the caravan?

and who offers these services?

I assume if something happens with the car i wont be covered for relay with the caravan.

any suggestions?

I'd go with CC Mayday by Greenflag, as above.

When I tried to get breakdown cover independently for the caravan, all the breakdown companies stated the same that you have to cover the towing vehicle first and the caravan cover is an extension of that specific cover. None of them would cover me solely for the caravan on it's own that's why I eventually bought my own car in order to be able to get covered for both in merely in the case of an emergency. So if you do contact any breakdown company make certain in writing that they will cover your caravan independently otherwise they will certainly accept your payment quite willingly then only to find out in the small print afterwards that what was explained verbally is not actually the case and it will be virtually impossible to get a refund afterwards.

i have the same issue - and found out the hard way that i wasnt covered for such an instance earleri this year,

you can go direct to Green flag and buy cover to include the caravan...so you dont have to be a CC member..they just dont call it mayday.

I have actually taken out an any vehicle policy on my bike - but if the caravan breaks down then i can use this with the lease car :)....the lease car has its own breakdown like yourself.
and i can pick and choose now which to call.

now that woudl be fun....call 2 breakdown firms and see which one gets to you first

Mayday does have a few advantages over buying direct. It is slightly cheaper, cover is slightly better and the callout number is different.

I have used Mayday and RAC. I cannot recommend Mayday highly enough. I cannot recommend RAC at all.

I would ask who leased you the car. They would tell you if you can add a trailer to the break down service for a fee.

Good point, Most leasing companies have breakdown cover as part of the package, but it is basic. You will probably find that the car also has 'manufacturers' breakdown cover which is probably provided by the RAC or AA. In which case it's worth calling them to see if they would recover car and van. My company car, an A3 has Audi Roadside Assistance which is provided by the RAC. There is nothing in the handbook that excludes caravans?

Failing that, if you have other cars in the household that need breakdown cover, get yourself family cover for any car your in. If you breakdown solo, call the manufacturer, if you breakdown towing - use your own.

We have our car via motobility and lease it, covered by RAC but the caravan was not.

It cost just £34 for us to cover that via them.

Not much for the relief it gives. Now our car & caravan will be not only be towed; but now both will be mended and not just the car.

This came up earlier so quite a few members who using the mobility leasing found out what they can do like myself via another members post. Now cannot find it

 Thankfully just in case.

Might sound silly but how do the lease company feel about a tow bar being put on the car?? No doubt you have already thought of this but just thought I woukd mention it. Good luck and enjoy your van next spring

Hi Guys

Thank you for your replies.

Tonkarav- no problem with having the tow bar on a lease car just means you send back with the tow bar on. Downside means I have to buy a new tow bar every two years. ( i guess the pro's of this are a new car every two years also.

I have a hyundai and it definately does not cover anything but the car.

I will take a look at mayday and see what that entails.
