reading this post made me chuckle a bit [:D]

when we bought our van,we thought it only had an alarm and sensor fitted, not bothered so much but we took it out of the storage as it was costing us a fair bit,so we used to store it at the back of our church,no problem.

all usual security devices fitted, wheel lock, steady locks, wheel clamp, hitch lock etc.when we had our drive relaid more room now so brought van home, great, could get it on easy with motor mover and park it neater, plug it in to charge battery and cool fridge befor goin away.

laughed tho.when we picked her up and left the church after taking off all security devices etc.hitched up and away we went, now we live bout 2miles from church, pulled up outside home and getting ready to put her in the drive on the mover, police car pulled up and 2 officers approached us,""is this your caravan sir "" yes i answered, well we have just been informed that it has been stolen !!! aghgast at this, how do you know?well the tracker co. have informed us by auto response !!!

what i did not know that we should have changed our names onto the details with the co.showed them our cris cert.and bill of sale, etc.just then the phone went inside the house and it was the previuos owner who we had already spoken to when we bought the van, they had forgot to mention that it had a tracker system on it incorporated it the van,the co. ahd called them thtell them that the van was being moved.ooops!!!

alls well that ended well tho.2 mugs of tea and 1 phone call to the co.and van was re-registered in our names.that how good these trackers are, well worth the money, but crikey how embarassing !!!![:o)]

If only we had a drive! it was stolen from the communal cat park for the row of 6 houses where we live. We are in the middle house, if we were at the end we might have heard something.

I've had a tracker on a car before they work superbly, that I do not question, but if am I missing the point here? You insure it (In my case new for old) it gets nicked and you get a new one.. Granted it doesn't happen over night but even so... What is the real benefit of shelling out for a tracker given these circumstances.

Vonc we have a burglar alarm and live in a decent area, didn't stop thieves breaking in at 1pm on a bank holiday Monday when we were in Devon .. Neighbourhood watch and nosey neighbours did actually see them but in and out and gone in a flash.. So yes you are lucky and nobody will ever convince me that they aren't increasing their risk of a break in by parking their caravan in view at home when they are not touring.. All about reducing risk ... You make your own calls about what level of risk is acceptable to you, personally I'd never dream of doing it

Mmm...insurance probably costs more if one isnt fitted...its a deterrent...
How can it be a deterrent if the thief/thieves don't know it's there.  &

Lol blue...well yes...they dont know ...but i am sure they know some have them fitted...having a twin axle i have been told you are more prone to the travellers of the community taking your van..in the end its each to there own and the choices they make...mind you thinking about it the £99 could have gone toward new for old insurance ...at least theese topics get us thinking

Yeah your right Vonc, good to talk, I've just ordered an new Elddis Crusader that is twin axle and I heard the same about travellers, to be honest I don't have the room at home so not an option. Vonc on a new van I think you have to have new for old don't you? I know C&CC insisted on it when I bought latest van.

Blue.. Over say a 5 year period fitting/subscription for a phantom tracker is going to cost you at least £1000, that means you would need a £200 discount on your insurance to break even...

To conclude, the title of this post was trackers do work and yes they do, seemingly very well from the experience of members.

For me personally it makes no sense to make such an investment.

Just do it, our new van came with one already fitted and first years subs free. £99 a year after that, or there is a reduced rate if renewing for 5 years.

Different scenario to the one I and the majority face then, given your circumstances I would of course make use of it
