Starting to get annoyed by the air vents in the under seating area, the Caravan is lovely and warm but the floor is bloomin freezing and these vents kick out a cold draft. Would it hurt if I put in some vent shutters for when we're in the van or would this cause moisture problems? My feet are freezing but my face is hot lol

No, the vents are simply round holes in the floor with a wire mesh under the seats. So you can imagine the draft!

Rather than close them, could you deflect the draught? Thing made of card - like a chimney top cowl sort of idea in reverse perhaps?

We always have the same problem too with a gap at the floor under the front centre drawers so we made a short door draught excluder from material, stitched it together and fitted it across the gap to stop the draught. It helped to get the caravan more cosy thus no more cold ankles and feet. We removed the draught excluder at bedtime when the heating was off for air to circulate but when you are not on electric hook up and heating by gas only it's amazing how much more gas you consume by keep turning the fire up a little higher so by temporalily excluding the draught during the day and evening can slightly reduce your gas consumption too.

They are supposed to be permanent ventilation. Your best bet might just to be to cover them up while you sit in the evening with rolled up towels or whatever & uncover them when you go to bed, you need some ventilation while you sleep. They also need to be uncovered when caravan is parked up not being used.

not just for ventilation i also think they are gas vents,gas being heavier than air if there was a leak it would run to the vent.i have left the vents as they were and open but the bedding was so cold i had to do something.what i did was to carpet the inside of the bed boxes leaving a hole for the vent. this improved the heat greatly.hope this helps a bit.

I agree with tentz, keep them covered whilst you're sat eating/watching tv if you're on the electric hook up but uncover one of them when you all hit the sack for reasons of ventilation, one other thing though is always keep some good ventilation if you are using the hot water store, cooker or gas fire/heater on the gas bottle as these appliances need a certain amount of ventilation to work safely, i'm a gas engineer so this is one of the the things that  must always be adhered to when using on open flued appliance.

Under carpet electric heating solves most of the problems and uses very little power (about 150W per m2 of heat mat). Regarding gas appliances in a caravan, as far as I am aware the only item that has a flame inside the habitation space is the oven and hob, other appliances have their burners externally vented and would not produce fumes, CO etc in the habitation space. I think Michael is correct in that the vents in the floor are drop vents to allow any lpg to drain in the event of a leak internal to the caravan.

I find that the awning skirt helps to reduce the draughts when it is windy and sometimes I put a spare awning skirt on the offside as well (Alde heating so side vent and flue).
