I've never been unable to get on a CC site and we usually book a week or 2 before we go, all year round, so I guess that a lot of people who book now end up cancelling, or is it because we never go south of Newcastle?
It does you good to have a good moan! Especially when youve been sat on a computer for 45 mins trying to book a site that you havent been able to get on for 7 years and the website keeps freezing and playing up! Point im making is the CC creates millions in revenue from memberships and needs to reinvest this money into their website that cant cope with the bookings and it happens every year. Yes we do have a choice if we are members but we also have a say in how the club operates and I still think that they should take deposits for all bookings then it will stop people block booking sites that they may not need and it will give everyone more of a chance of getting onto the sites they want. I know this an ongoing issue and statistics state that taking deposits doesnt make a difference but im not convinced, I dont think people would be willing to part with a deposit for every booking they make! Alot of commercial sites now ask for full payment up front when booking so the CC members are lucky they dont have to part with any money til they arrive on site. I suppose thats one of the perks of being a member but for me the CLs are the reason im a member not the club sites - very overpriced for a family of 4 who have to go in school hols and the sites dont have anything on them!
I do feel that on a whole what the club do they do well however I was an hour and a half trying to book my sites for next year before getting anywhere. We all enjoy a good moan, me included! But I can't see how the club can justify such high pitch fees, when there are commercial sites doing things just as well if not better for less especially for those with children. I certainly would not object to paying a deposit of say £5.00 per night to secure my bookings.

There is pretty much always availability within the Scottish sites network, the exception is Gibson Park at Melrose. Edinburgh, Ayr and Yellowcraigs tend to fill up for Bank Hols but not till the last minute.
