After 12 years of static life we are now going back on the road and have provisionally ordered a 2013 Bailey Valencia.

Just wondered if anyone else had one and what their experience of the outfit was

Thanks for the welcome!

It is a nice caravan, although i was torn between the Valencia and the Barcelona but tbh the latter was really bigger than what we actually needed and had a huge fridge which i would find hard to fill!

Been static for such a long time in both van and mind and so looking forward to going to different places again will be a refreshing change, although it took us a long time to come to this decision!

I am just hoping iam not turned away from sites because i have my English Bull Terrier in tow! ( in the car of course, not behind it!)

The Valencia is on order and delivery is due towards the end of February...

A couple of things i wanted to ask:

We are looking at awnings and hopefully nipping down to Glossop at the weekend weather permiting (last week of course snow was everywhere 17) What i wondered was if anyone had one of those Outdoor Revolution Compactalite awnings as we saw  a 375 Hex at the caravan show in Manchester and i was quite "taken" with it as i thought it was fresh and modern and didnt have curtains (houseproud enough in my everyday life without worrying about curtains and tiebacks whilst on holiday!) They seemed quite lightweight but i worried how they would fare in both wear and tear and wind?

Secondly, i have booked a few sites both commercial and hopefully through the caravan club (once my membership comes through) and i wondered on what take the site have on leaving a dog in the caravan whilst you go out. My dog is good and once walked, fed and watered he generally settles down but what exactly is the defination of "must be supervised at all times"? Dont want to sound dim here, and being involved with dog rescue i am well aware of the do's and donts of care but didnt want to go out in the afternoon only to find the site owner running after me reading the riot act!

Answers on a postcard please 17...

I think the problem with leaving dogs is if they bark or if it's hot and they are 'cooking' in the caravan

I've left mine for short periods on CC sites and no one has said a word, we don't usually use commercial sites due to the wide variances in quality

Personally, I'd want to see your bull terrier attached to a high tensile steel chain! - and, even then, I'd probably move to another pitch in order to escape it.

I like dogs very much (I have a dog) but a creature easily capable of killing someone is not suitable for public display, imo

"Supervised at all times" means just that. If you want to bring a dog keep him with you. Particularly if you have a bull terrier. I'm sure yours is an old softy but unfortunately their reputation precedes them.

Yes, it means keep them with you. If you go out, they go out with you as well.

I often camp alone with my dog, so there's a problem when I need to go and have a shower. I solved this by going after sundown and putting the dog in the car and driving over to the shower block - she will behave in the car as she treats it as a second kennel, but will howl if I leave her in the van.

Re the Outdoor Rev awning. I have Outdoor Rev driveaway awnings, found them to be lightweight, easy to put up and great in the wind as they have very flexible poles. A couple of extra storm straps is a good idea though.

Firstly, let me say thank you Oldfolder for the "warm" welcome...

I wont extol the virtues of being the owner of an English Bull Terrier on you as i can sense from your reply that you are already brainwashed by the media with regard to the "reputation" of my breed of dog.

I am angered that you felt you needed to express such distaste when you have met neither my dog or myself.

Tis true, the media has indeed enhanced the bad reputation so much so that unfortunately people like you are suckered in and have now formed such a staunch opinion of the English Bull Terrier.

I could go on and on but to do so will only fuel further argument of which i do not want to continue on here as i only joined to discuss caravan issues.

I would add that should i ever hook up next to the likes of you I shall be the first one to move on, believe me.

Prior to owning a static caravan, i owed two tourers and a Pennine Pullman folding camper for many years.

I will not answer to further comments about my dog, but will just leave you with a little snippet that has been in the news but did not make the front page because these are fluffy, sweet dogs...arent they???

Enough said...

( at Jax, Tentz and Mark thanks for your replies, friendly input is always welcome

We often leave our dog Woodsey. She is as much at home in our motorhome as she is in the house. We have never had any complaints. We do ask our neighbours on site if she has caused any problems with barking etc. just out of politeness. The majority of the time she goes with us as she is part of our holiday.
Others on here, and quite rightly, will see things differently but you have to decide for yourself and use your common sense.

Happy caravanning!

Had a look at this van just the other day.  Bit to blingy for me - otherwise a decent van.  Neighbour has one

Yes i did think it was a tad on the "flash" side myself originally when i saw it on paper, but once inside (only thing i wasnt fussed on was the mirrored ceiling light!) the caravan actually has a nice feel to it.

Originally, we had gone out on the day to look at a Pageant...but somehow i was somewhat distracted by the Valencia!17

Why do people always think bull types are evil and will rip your face off? This makes me so cross, all dogs have the potential to bite, its true, Yes I blame the media, it has a big part in demonising certain breeds, but saying that all bull breeds should be on a tensile steel chain, well quite frankly that's down right rude to say that to woodsy, hardly giving a new member a warm welcome is it? How about hello welcome to UKCS, not you've got a savage dog , if i see you on site ill move if I'm next to you!
Dogs are welcome on a lot of sites, I'm sure you are a sensible owner and are quite capable of using your common sense.
Anyway woodsy, hope you and your dog enjoy your new van, and welcome to UKCS.
