Those of us with vans still in warranty have no choice. In your situation I think I would use a mobile service engineer as its a lot more comvenient than taking a van into a dealer to have serviced. Here is a list of approved service agents http://www.approvedworkshops.co.uk/approved-touring-caravan-motorhome-servicing
As to how frequently, to me it depends how many miles you do. If the distance each year is quite small I think you could get away with every two years. However I would suggest you pay particular attention to the tyres. If they are getting on, over 5 years, they should be changed to be on the safeside regardless of how good the thread looks.

We use a mobile service guy, not having to empty the van a bonus, and towing it the the dealer, then have to wait a week, not being able to drop it off or pick it up on a weekend, moblie every time.
We have ours done every year, regardless of the miles we do, and last year £130.
If tyres needed we use etyres they are mobile fitters.
1. If you use a mobile service engineer you can see the work they do. If you take it to a dealer you can't so it's merely a matter of trust.
2. You are supposed to have the caravan serviced annually but this is down to choice as a caravan doesn't cover as many miles as a car does. We have ours serviced every two years as most of our trips are fairly local weekends out.
3. This can vary as dealers will often have overheads to pay so the service cost will be more than that of a mobile service engineer. I know people that pay under £150 for a mobile engineer but I paid twice that last year because mechanics are not allowed in the secure storage compound where our caravan is stored therefore I have to take it to a dealer. Sometimes we don't have that choice to pay the cheaper option unfortunately and that's another reason why it's only serviced every two years as well.
As your van is out of warranty I would happily use a mobile. Frequency depends on mileage and usage. For light or modest use I would go for every other year.
We are lucky in that where we store the van there is a servicing company on the same industrial site. Just a five minute tow without going outside the secure patrolled complex, so we use them. Serviced every year since new in 2002, peace of mind mainly.

We use an Approved mobile service guy. He used to work for our local dealer before it closed. First class service, happy for you to watch and ask any questions and costs £170 for our single axle Coachman. We have it serviced annually to keep warranty and to ensure all is working OK. Our nearest dealer is over an hours tow away, so its a no brainer for us !!
I used a local mobile engineer for a chassis service last year and was very pleased with it. I got his name off the link Michael has provided above, and he was only based a few miles away from me!
not long had our van..have booked for a mobile engineer to service it ..someone on here recomended him..will cost £165...to go to local dealer would cost £195 not a big difference but less hassle..as we havent used the van having it serviced will put our mind at rest he is here for about 5 plus hours..checks everythin brakes..carbon monoxide the lot...worth it for peace of mind ..

Even if a van is still in warranty you can use a mobile engineer, just make sure he's approved by the manufacturer, in our case Swift and he can stamp the book and update the service record at Swift
