There is a lot of vitriol hurled at these on the web. The main bug bear people have is the fact they use 12v when not on hook up.
My thoughts, OK they use 12v but only 1.6A while heating, the same as a single halogen capsule lamp. A 110AH battery would drive it for 68 3/4 Hours.
The average 15W solar charger costs around £100, 8 Hours daylight will give 6 hours heating.
A spare fully charged battery is another option.
Looking around caravans using these heaters, it's amazing how much space is freed up
