hi, we have a bailey ranger gt60 540/6 & love it. its 2009. unfortunately my back has finally given up & we need a fixed bed. we know we wont get any decent deal with dealers to swap it but was wondering is this type of van sought after? and also is there a place that we could initiate a swap? obviously for a similar year & condition? thanks :-)

I would think you would be better selling the van privately in the spring. I'm sure it will sell easily, the triple bunk layout is very desirable at the moment. Then you will be in a better position to buy a fixed bed van as cash buyers so either privately or with a dealer.

I would say the Ranger 540/6 would be quite highly sought after. I know when we were searching for ours there were very few of this model of van available in the UK. (We love ours)

There are very few 6 birth / lightweight vans around these days.

You say you won't get a decent deal with dealers, but have you tried ? You might be surprised.

Perhaps worth speaking to Jules on here, although I think they wanted an older van.

Id get it on something like Caravan-selecta now. I was going to wait till Spring to sell our Motorhome after a dealer wanted to give us a derisory sum for a part-ex caravan.
He told us people wanted them BEFORE Spring to get the 'ready' to be off - not buying in Spring.
As a result, we came straight home and advertised it. It sold two days later for £5500 more than the dealer offered us.

We were looking for a specific van last Sept and found one on the web at a dealership I rang and enquired and advised we had a part exchange. I quickly agreed a really good part exchange price over the phone, you have to be realistic with the value of your van but also not want to give it away but we ended up getting £2000 more than any other dealership had offered. The downside is we got nothing off the van we were buying, it was quite keenly priced, so we attempted to get extras and ended up with free transfer of our powermover and a set of new carpets.
Both you and the dealer have to honest about the condition of the vans else the deal won't hang together. For me if I can I would prefer to use a dealer for warranty and general financial security.
Therefore don't necessarily rule out a dealership.

As caravan owners often decide to change their van for another layout (as we have, twice) I think a caravan swap/exchange service would be a great idea. Obviously in some cases cash would need to change hands as well, depending on the value of each van.

Any budding entrepreneur's out there with web site design skills??!

We have also bought from a dealer, but got a better 'deal' as we had no part-ex (after selling ours private). Because we were then 'cash-buyers', we got all sorts thrown in, AND money off the screen price (which to be fair is always ramped up to be able to 'discount' to start with).

Advertised our caravan on the off chance it would sell before we had time to bring it out of storage. Phone was red hot and first to view bought.

Thank you.

Well Adria had something of a revival and came back to the market with some quite innovative layouts. German caravans always highly thought of such as Burstner, but heavy.

thanks,a good find as they are good caravans.BUT take care to keep the gross weight /MTPLM of caravan at 85% of your cars kerbweight to be safe on tow.to easy to overlook.adria tend to be heavy.
