As collecting our new van is now imminent, ive been getting quotes for insurance. I got two pretty good quotes from the popular providers, one £20 lower than the other (like for like). I fancied the dearer company of the two, but asked them if they could match the other? They knocked £35 off, so i took it. It just shows what you can get if you ask, and i hadnt even got into full haggling mode. Id have been happy with the 'match' on its own. So result!

Who were the companies involved.... Would be nice to name them for the heads up at least
C&CC + Caravanguard. I took the former. Im pretty sure if id then got back to the latter with my 'lower quote', they would have then gone one better as well. But, i just fancied the C&CC - dont know why.
I totally agree with what you say and I also found the exact same two companies with the best quotes too but we opted for 'Caravan Guard' as it was only about £4 more in comparison for the same cover. Also with the C&CC you have to remain a member which is another £40 a year on top but as we are members of the C&CC and have been for the last 7 years, due to times getting financially harder each year there may be a time when we cannot afford to rejoin so we thought that Caravan Guard was more practical in the long term.
If a company lower its price to meet a rival quote, it would seem that they hold you in contempt to be ripped off unless you scream.
As a point of principle I would then not use them.
hi all- been to visit the sister-in-law today and she has just renewed their caravan insurance--being cheeky and asking for any discounts available she was told 'if you insure the caravan in BOTH yours and your husbands name it will knock of £30' -----why did no one tell me this when i got the flaming van years ago!! right sisters rant now vented. cheers
I have been getting quotes for our new van and have found Towergate to be the cheapest at just under £300. The policy is underwritten by Allianz and does not require additional security on top of the already standard high tech security the van comes with.
Didnt know that joint name insurance can reduce premiums? Will go back to Towergate and see if i can shave a few pounds off their price!
I found the complete opposite with Tesco motor insurance a few years ago. I had my renewal, shopped around online and managed to get a slightly better quote. I contacted Tesco and told them what the better quote was and they didn't even try to match it, the person the other end just asked if I wanted to cancel the policy.
