Hi All

Planning a trip for the summer and its our first time on the East coast, we wanted to start in Suffolk around Lowestoft and work our way up to Norfolk through Yarmouth and Caistor etc.

We will be travelling down from Yorkshire so which route would you suggest ? would the A1 - A14 suite best or A46 - A17 bearing in mind the length of our unit Twin axle and Nissan Navara.

Also is the A12 from Suffolk north and easy towing route ?

Any suggestions most welcome.

Thanks

I would go A1, then A47 all the way into GT Yarmouth, as a fair bit of the A47 is now dueled, so good for a larger unit. depending on where you are staying, i would then pick up the A12 and head down to Lowestoft, but personally, I would choose a site between the two, and have the easy reach of the best of both worlds so to speak.

The south side of Lowestoft can become rather Industrialised in some areas, whilst the north tends to stay more Lush and 'touristy'.

Hope this helps,

Julia

I think any of those routes should be OK. (Sorry that doesn't help much !)

Those roads are all good from my experience and it's mostly flat on the east coast.

A1 - A14 and stay somewhere like Kessingland to the south of Lowestoft or Southwold area and visit the lovely coastal heaths and nature reserves that stretch down to nearly as far as Felixstowe. If you like beer a visit to Southwold and a sample of Adnams how it should be is worth while.

Both Lowestoft and Gt Yarmouth are ok for towing if you keep out of the town centres and keep on the main roads (I have a twin axle as well). You could easily cover these places from Kessingland as day trips and then go further around the Norfolk coast to somewhere like Cromer/Sheringham or even as far as Wells next the Sea. If you are on a tight budget there are several C&CC temporary holiday sites in Norfolk and Suffolk during the summer months and these are great value at less than £10 a night for a family.

We go into Norfolk a great deal, having lived at Yarmouth as a youngster and married at Caister its a bit like going home, The roads around where you are planing to go will not give you a problem provided you stick to the main roads that is.
We live near Boston so for us its the A16 and A47 fo get to Yarmouth area, going around the coast road towards Cromer is a little more tricky but again not difficult, lots of good sites around Yarmouth, We used Rose Farm at Belton for many years and would recomend it(just south of Yarmouth). We now tend to spend more time in North Norfolk. Have a good trip.

Thanks for all the advice, we have booked a couple of nights at a site in kessingland to start with and then we plan to travel north towards Hemsby and then up to Wells.

I think A1 - A14 will be the route of choice.

Thanks again Paul

I know the feeling, we love caravaning, hate towing in heavy traffic, and kids saying "are we there yet or how far now",(such fun)and we will be in a green ford explorer with an elddis tin shed following, hopefully unless i lose it on the way and the caravan
