My caravan at present is running onbutane gas, I am considering changing over to propane, so that I can switch to Calor lite, to save a few pounds of nose weight, my caravan is a 2007 model with a regulator fixed to the bulk head, what changes would I need to make to make for this change over, and is it really worth changing just to save a few pounds bearing all things in mind.
your advice most appreciated many thanks

Having had Calor Lite for some years now there is no way I would volunteer to go back to the heavy cylinders. The Lites seem to weigh full almost as much as the old ones weigh empty so there is a considerable weight saving. Of course there is also the question of lugging them around which as you get older is also an issue.
You'll also need to pay a fresh deposit (refill agreement) on the Calor Light bottles as the butane bottles are not exchangable for the propane bottles.
If you are changing from butane screw on connectors you only need to get adaptor for BP now Macgas light. I think this also applies to larger butane that you unscrew the butane clip on adaptor and replace with 27mm bp. Pigtails stay the same.

Aluminium
Well if it is Aluminium it is something special as I have never found aluminium to be magnetic before and Calor Lite bottles are as I use a small magnet to remind me which bottle I am using on a twin supply.
As far as I can remember aluminium bottles have not been used in the UK (unless by a small company). I had a few AGA Gas bottles from Sweden and they were aluminium and were great but the scrap value was so high I guess it was not worth any UK gas supplier trying to use them.

From the figures in the article that Michael has linked to it looks like Calor lost 1 in 60 bottles they supplied in 2010. However I have a sneaky suspicion that a good proportion of them are probably in sheds etc gathering dust. I know I have a few and as Calor's policy of not refunding the deposit after a few years disincentives me from making the effort to return them I am probably not the only person to have them in the yard.
