Hi all, i've been in corispondence about buying a caravan from someone advertising on "caravanselecta" she's sent me an email and this is what it says.

" Since the last buyer came with 50 pound fake notes I have requested personal support and I was approved to use Buyer/Seller Protection Program. Here is how the process works through the Buyer Protection Program.
I'm going to list it as a private auction on ebay and then send you the link, you will need to click on buy it now and just follow the instructions sent to you by ebay. As soon as they will confirm that to me I am going to start the delivery through shiply.com as ebay has instructed me. Once you receive it you have two options. Option 1: You will tell ebay I received it and its in perfect order the transactions is a success and I get my money, or option two but I don`t think you will use this one, you will contact ebay and tell them you can`t keep it. They will refund you the money and thats it. end of the deal.
Everything is covered by eBay. I will get paid only after you confirm that you received it. I need your full name and a mobile number to forward them to ebay and so you will be registered in the buyer protection program. When ebay will get you registered in the buyer protection program please let me know so I can send you the link to my auction.
Let me know if this is acceptable. Thank you"

Does this sound like a scam

Thanks

mike

Send the message on to eBay and see what they say - they're generally quite helpful if you suspect a scam.

These scams are everywhere. Just bought a mini cooper which is a popular add for scammers. I came across dozens.

I think the modern term "scam" is too polite. In the old days they were just thieves or confidence tricksters or frauds.

Scum is a much better modern word.

Scam, ebay don't hold money, nor does paypal, you have to use a 3rd party, escrow service.

I have just had correspondence with someone and it was fishy so I backed out:

Hi Christiane,

I apologise for wasting your time, I do cash on delivery, I don't pay for something if I haven't seen it, no matter how trustworthy Escrow is, I have never used it before and therefore I retract my interest.

Regards

Jason

Hi Jason,

Like i said , the caravan is located in France but if you are really interested we can tow it to your place and we will be there Saturday 23rd February. Is that ok with you? Please don`t understand me wrong but first of all i need a guarantee from you that you are not making bad jokes and you are a serious buyer . Two weeks ago a buyer told me that he'll buy our caravan , so we must meet in Dover. We came to Dover because we trusted his word, but when we arrived he messed us around, so we lost money and precious time on his promise. I don't want to ask you to send me any money in advance, I just want to see that you are a serious buyer. I will come only for a serious deal. If you don't want to buy it after you will inspect it, no problem, but I need to be sure that you will be there.
I just spoken with my husband and we want this transaction to be managed by escrow.com , they are the most safety escrow service in the word and protect the buyer and the seller in the same time.( they are recommended by ebay, autotrader and all important classifieds websites). Also we just read that they have now brokers in all European countries to offer fast transactions for their customers , so if you agree with our terms our transaction will be managed by an UK broker.
This is the only way that we can do the transaction, hope that you understand.
Look forward to hearing from you.

Thanks

Christiane Douel

Hello Jason,

I appreciate your intent of buying my caravan . The caravan stands in perfect condition and it is CRIS registered.Paint is good ,no dings or dents .We also are both non smokers .
Our last price is 4000 GBP.
We bought the caravan from UK when we was in a holiday in Scotland.
The reason for selling it now is that we are couple of pensioners (i have 59 and my wife has 54 years old), we love spending our time traveling around the world by plane, so a caravan is no more useful for us.
We are living in Soissons , France but if you are really interested to buy our caravan we are ready to come to UK at the end of the week and you can take a look .where do you live?
Look forward to hearing from you.

Thanks

Jean and Christiane Douel

The words barge poles come to mind! I wouldn't trust them on the English Grammar alone.

XVI yes?

As well is two words!
How does a sage know everything about everything? or does he? or does he just think he does?
Remember, if you buy something you bought it, not brought it.

I would get them to list it on ebay and then report the listing.

Possibly 1 less fake or stolen account for them to use.

Beware links to the listing though. There are fake ebay websites out there.

But when you click "my ebay" it does really take you to your ebay.

Sneaky.
