you can change it for the IDM 4 same size.click on link it will give you instructions as well to download http://www.busyoutdoors.com/caravan-alarm-kit-idm4/p526 do you have a faulty one fitted? if it needs a charger see garys post If the IDM3 has three wires coming from it it is indeed charged to some degree though the main battery when on hook up, if only two wires then no. The battery is a sealed lead acid of 1.2 amp hour and is sold by any specialist battery shop for less than a tenner. The charger supplied is of limited use to fully charge the battery and for as much as ?20 you can buy a plug top switch mode charger specfically designed for this battery. I got mine by Yuasa model CM03A12T from Maplins for ?14 on special offer. I had the instructions as contained in an Abbey instruction manual and found these better than the originals, if I could remember who 'borrowed' them.....
