Hi Kim - Welcome to the forums.

I am the lady with the Fisher Holivan - loving refered to as Holi and her partner in crime is my classic Mini, Wilma Daisy.

I purchased my Holi about 2 years ago and spent the winter months doing her up.
I replaced the seat foam and made new covers, made new curtains, fitted venetian blinds, added 240v electrics and plug sockets, added a cold water tap, replaced the 2 12v halogen lights with LED strip lights and then completely decorated her inside and out.
After one of her cupboard doors fell off and couldn't be re-fitted due to the wood slitting, I removed the cupboard and replaced it with some plastic storage drawers which are much better!

Where abouts do you live?
What year is your van?
Have you got any piccies?
What is that you want to know?

Look forward to hearing from you - you have made an excellent choice of caravan!!

Hi Helen
Thanks for replying.
It is a 1970 9t model , its a really sweet little caravan in quite good condition for its age. The man i brought it from did some work on it but I am going to recover the seats and make some new curtains etc
I would like to respray and have the "quilting " in a different colour. Did youdo yours yourself, it looks really good by the way.
I live in Hertfordshire ,where are you?
I havent taken any pics yet but it is the caravan that was sold in the car and classics posted by Michael..
I have a little damp patch inside just above the door ,what would be the best way to deal with it.
Thanks
Kimx

Hi Kim
I live in North Yorkshire, near Scotch Corner.

I got my lovely husband to paint Holi for me. We did it on our drive and used Dulux paint that he thinned down so that it would go through the spray gun!
We used some white primer and then just painted it on our drive one warm, sunny day!

All masked up ready to paint

All primed

The colours go on!

With regards to your damp patch above the door, I suspect that it could be ingress from either a loose awning rail or the door rain strip.
If you can find where the water is getting in, the next thing is to check the extent of the damage. If you have caught it quickly, it may just be a case of drying the area out and then resealing without the need to replace damaged structure timbers.
I had to do this with my kitchen window as the seal had perished. I just dried the area out thoroughly and then resealed the window - been dry as a bone since.

Before you recover the seats, check that the foam is fire retardent and meets current safety standards. Mine wasn't as it had the original seats which is why I replaced them with new foam and then made new covers.

Can't wait to see some piccies of your lovely little van!

Hi Helen
Thanks for the info, if you can do it I am sure I could. Do you know of anyone else with a holivan,or are they quite rare?
Also did you insure with a particular insurer or is it just get the best deal you can.
Thanks
Kimx

I am sure you will have no problems at all customising your Holivan.
I really enjoyed doing mine up and even now, I look out for little bits to make her cosy or cute!

Never seen another one on site, so I don't think you will see many on your travels!
As they were made in the 60s and early 70s I suppose many will have been scrapped over the years so they are quite rare now I think.
You will probably get a lot of attention when you're on site - I know Holi does!
It is so nice to have found someone else who has one of these lovely little vans.

When it came to insurance, I found many companies wouldn't even give me a quote as my van was too old!
The best place I found, who gave me very good quote (and weren't ageist!) was the Caravan Club.

Wow Helen what a fab job you have done on your Fisher Holivan, have you been to any meetups yet? I really need to find some vintage camping groups as my little girl has never moved of my drive :(

I attend quite a few CC rallies and have always been made very welcome on site.
I also have a favourite CS that I go to regularly.

I often get people taking photos of the car and van as I guess they are a bit unusual!

Where abouts do you live?

I'm in Stockport Helen, we have spoken quite a bit in the past about our Fisher Holivans... Did you manage to get an awning sorted. I bought a 70's retro drive away one on ebay last week and just love it :)

I got a Outdoor Revoultion Touring XLS awning for Holi which fits brilliantly and has the added bonus of having a 2 berth sleeping compartment attached!

Glad you managed to find a suitable awning for your Holivan.
