Having had several caravans over the years we have usually opened the van at the end of winter to find some (sometimes a fair bit) of mildew on curtains, cupboards etc. Usually a stiff brush or washing got rid of it.
Today we opened our caravan to find not one teensy spot of mildew anywhere! What did we do differently! For the first time we opened every cupboard. Took tie-backs off the curtains and closed them. Lifted the sofas and put them on their sides. Kept toilet door open. And didnt use any salt etc. plenty of air circulating round everything. Dry as a bone. Delighted!
Colder winter? The air is drier when the temperature is at its lowest. Also wind direction, air from the north east and east is also drier than air from the south westerlies.

Burst my bubble Oliver! I thought I had been smart
I have ours on the drive and find ours smells much fresher if the heating is left on with the thermostat turned down to the minimum. Been out to it a few times over the winter and not once have I seen the thermostat actually turn the heating on, but it must be coming on occasionally. Not getting any condensation on the windows like we used to get either.
We,re similar, the van is on the drive, we don't have the heat on all the time but regularly. We will sometimes open the windows on warm days, and we always do similar to Teeny reference cushions, cupboards etc.
As the van is in a very secure compound we took the curtains down this year to get them cleaned.Last month i went to check it and had not a bit of mildew or condestion dripping from the roof like we get over the years.
Ive put this down to letting the sun shine in and warming the van. When the season opens here in April and its still free of the above i will be leaving the curtains open.
We have found some small mildew spots on most of the curtain liners only. Not on the main curtain material. We have tried a gentle wool wash but the marks are still there. Any suggestions please!!
