We have a sprite alpine xl 1990 and wanted to know what leisure battery is best for us to get for it, we will need to run the lights and water pump off the battery everything else can run off ehu.
If you only want to power the lights and pump and you always use ehu you dont in theory need a battery as a decent transformer will do the job and it will save you carting a large battery about.
If you think you might want to be off ehu for short periods of time then a small 45Ahr battery will do the job. I seem to recall that in 1990 the Alpines did not have a dedicated battery locker but used a TP2 box but I might be wrong as it was a long time ago. If it is a TP2 you are unlikely to get anything more than an 85Ahr battery to fit anyway.

no battery locker on the van it goes under the front seat.
thanks for the info...we only ever go ehu so we don't need a battery to power anything else only the lights and water pump...will look into a transformer
Our first van was a 1962 Sprite Alpine with no electrics only gas. I fitted 2 12v strip lights and powered them up from the car. No electric water pump, only a manual foot pump for water. This worked for us for several years until I did what Davescoaches sugests, an old car battery and a cheap Halford's charger. I hooked up to the car by making up a lead to plug into the 12n socket on the car, twin wire, one to earth and one to the permanent live pin, can't remember which pin that is. Fitted 12n socket on the Aframe wired into the two lights. The only thing is you have to be careful you don't flatten car battery...Mick
