hi all was wondering if any one can help me my husband and i have come across a old windrush caravan this is our first time owning a caravan and we would like some info on the windrush cotswold coach built caravan if anyone has any we would be gratefull as i have searched high and low on the internet but nothing has come up. i think its a 13ft one it has a two glass windows at the back and plastic windows to the front and sides. The toilet area has no toilet or sink lots of cupboard storage fridge oven, hob, sink and gas fire is there anything i could look out for to tell how old it would be etc.

We have found some damp on the inside near the big bay window which we will have to strip the damp wood and replace with new. does anyone have any tips on resealing the caravan inside and out also looks like we will have to replace window seals and trims the ones on there nore are all cracked white plastic.

Under the van looks rusty on the surface mostly any tips on making sure that its safe any info would be mush apprechiated.

You need to reseal the strips on the outside of the van.

Mixture of glass and plastic windows, That doesnt sound right. Someone been bodging?

Be prpared for a lot of work. Checkout the repairs section. No matter hos bad you think it is. Its usually MUCH worse.

You will have to seal the outside and possibly rebuild wholse sections from the inside.

If the chassis looks rusty also you need to get under there with a screwdriver and see how mad it is.
Surface rust can br treated. If anywhere has rust you can remove with a screwriver then dont bother.

Sounds a bit of a money pit to me. Not something you can use for sometime, Unless you transport it to a site and not actually tow it.

NO not bodged! Windrush was a quality van, the glass windows will be toughend glass as used in cars, very expensive so was used sparingly. Chassis will be a BandB, so pretty bomb proof and parts still readily available. Fast becoming a collectable classic. Only drawback is it will be fairly heavy.

owners club HERE The Windrush was a top quality well made van, your's with glass windows sounds like pre 1979 season when glass was banned. front side window around this time had opening top quarter lights, by 82 they kept the effect but the window was moulded in one piece
Should have a MK1 Carver Cascade water heater from 79/80, prior to that I think they used a wall mounted instantaneous water heater over the sink by the door?

Swift bought the name around 1990 and introduced the short lived Celeste model for a couple of years, 91-93 I think?

only windrush in my books is a 1988 132/2

length= 12ft .4in

width = 6ft . 3in

unladen weight = 15 cwt

max gross MTPLM = 18 cwt

name bought by swift = 1989

swift = 01482-847332

how to indentify = cotswold used there own numbering system although after 1995 check out the syspal chassis number or try try swift who may have the serial number records in house.

other windrushes 11/2 and 15/2

front window rubber can be a problem as non opening

hope this helps

Thank you for all your help and information, it has given me much better idea of what we will need to do.

There is no water heater on the wall by the door.

I will look at the repairs section and will keep you posted.

Thank you all again.

Hi

I have a full story of Cotswold I wrote for Caravan Life - it will give you the full background of the company start / finish - excellent vans and no heavier than modern tourers - would need a pic to check its year - B&B chassis were sealed but will still need checking - yes a classic in every sense

I can e-mail story to you

Greetings.

There cant be that many around that are still used for touring (as opposed to being used as a seasonal),Standby for snowstorm of responses.

When we first started 'vanning in the 80's the Windrush was a 'van to have. Congrats on your find.
