So, I've never been away in a touring caravan (we don't own one yet) and I have no idea how you go about getting it ready for the off. We have a tent so it's a jigsaw puzzle in the boot and roof box!

So, how do you get yours ready?

Do you put things in the cupboards and wardrobes? Do you put food in the fridge? Do things fall out of the cupboards? Does the fridge run off a battery while you are towing and do you have to get it down to the right temp before setting off? What do you take in the car?

Give me your run down :)

Things in cupboards and wardrobes....yes

Food in fridge....yes

Fall out of cupboards....no

Fridge off battery....yes,,,,,plugged in at house for a few hours to cool it down.

In car.... me, wife and large dog(he loves the van)

Yep fridge on for a few hours before setting off.

Food in cupboards and fridge

clothes in drawers, wardrobe, sleeping bags and pillows under seats

check TV is working and put under seat check electrics inside van

check cooker and heater are working okay

check tyre pressures

give outside of caravan a clean

Hook up and check brake lights indicators and away we go.....yeah.....cant wait

Depending on time of year repack for either winter or summer touring,

1> Clean Van inside and out.
2> Check hitches, wheels, lights breakaway cable etc.
3> Clothes in wardrobe, and other lockers
4> Food in lower lockers.
5> Bunk beds made for kids.
6> Car loaded with coolbox and dog
7> Food bag for stops enroute on floor between back seats.
8> Rear tvs connected and kids supplied with various dvd's/music etc. Only used on journeys longer than 2hrs.
9> hitch up and away
10> enjoy.

Thanks all.

I'm sure it all becomes second nature after a while and its got to be easier than my tent setup (I don't travel light). Makes me excited, wish we could get one this year.

Clothes and footwear in wardrobe and cupboards, heavy,s centrally placed over the axle, bikes on top of the car, food in the food store, dog in the boot, wine in the fridge, ready to go.

Everything else if forgotten can be purchased when we get there.

Bridgelayer - you are exactly right however we use a Bungy cord, to stop the hangers jiggling about.Another good item we have sued in recent trips are spring loaded poles between cupboards on the floor just to stop things moving about. of course with rubber feet so as not mark the cupboards.

Basic survival food in lockers, as we also also do the shopping once arrived and setup on site, much easier that way
