Hi everyone i've just bought a 1991 adria 400B which is my first caravan, basically it's just to upgrade from a tent which can be a nightmare with a 5 year old child.
I have a couple of questions i'm hoping someone can help me with.
Will the battery definitely recharge via the mains hook up? should I be able to see some sort of recharge unit to confirm this?
Also i'd like to add some 12v points for phone charging etc where do I need to take the feed from to do this? I am proficient in auto electrics/installations etc but caravans are new to me so would like to take the feed from the right place which I will obviously fuse as well.
The Pre 2007 Adria's generally didn't come with wiring to allow for a battery. They were designed to run of EHU only. The EHU runs a 12v transformer which powers the lights and blown air part of the heating(if fitted).
My first Adria was a 2008 and it had a battery fitted but no charger so I connected up a smart charger running tandum with the transformer. It worked because the output of the transformer was only 12.5v so the smart charger still considered the battery needed charge and would continue until fully charged and then drop down to maintenance mode.
It didn't have any adverse effects on the transformer and they worked happily together. If to do intend to do this make sure that the output of the transformer is 12.5V DC or there abouts and it is definitely DC as some continental vans were 12V AC which couldn't be used with a battery without modification.
If yours is DC and no battery is fitted you can connect it across the 12.5v DC output of the transformer and connect a smart charger as above.(without this smart charger the transformer would charge the battery slightly but probably only to about 25%) The good thing about this setup is that there is no requirement for any switch when going from battery to EHU and vica versa. I hope this helps but any other questions do not hesitate to ask

Ahh it seems someones added a battery to mine then as there is one there connected to the junction box. Like yours it operates 12v lights and water pump. There is no charging unit that I can see so for the little amount i'm going to use the van I think I will just charge up the battery after each outing.
I will have a dig round the junction box for some 12v feeds.
thanks for the advice
update: Just found this http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/12-VOLT-12V-TRICKLE-BATTERY-CHARGER-CAR-VAN-MOTORHOME-MOTORBIKE-QUAD-CARAVAN-/300826435505?pt=UK_Recovery_Tools&hash=item460aa71fb1 and wondering if I would be able to plug this into a 240v outlet while runningn on EHU to keep battery topped up?
ah yeah just notice it's only 500ma output will go for this http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Streetwize-Compact-Car-Motorbike-Caravan-Boat-12v-1-5A-Battery-Trickle-Charger-/160979334725?pt=UK_Recovery_Tools&hash=item257b1db645 instead hopefully it'll charge it ok while being used.
Hi We like Wizzo use a smart charger with our Adria 2008 Altea, and dont find it to be any trouble. Our smart charger currently is a Aldi model, as the lidl one failed.

trigGLX what's the output of your charger have you got a link to something similar, do you leave it connected all the time so it charges of EHU?
Yes it is best to leave it connected all the time so when on EHU it charges automatically and you can draw from it even when charging. The lidl and Aldi ones supply 3.8A but do have one drawback in that they reset when you lose 240v. so you would have to push a button once the EHU is connected but for £14 they are very good value for money. They are loosely based on a Ctek charger like this one CTEK
These are very good but a lot more money but they retain their settings when off EHU and start charging automatically once EHU reconected
Think wizzo has said it all. It was wizzo's post from a few years ago that inspired us to add and Aldi charger. We have had a couple of lidl ones but these failed??.
