Just got back from week away and thought I'd share our latest experience . We havbe a Lunar 460 and have had problems with frozen pipes before . One night we didn't take in the pump and disconnect th e waste . The next day the sink wouldn't drain depite lots of hot water being put down. OH decided to use a suction device on the sink and managed to dislodge the sink outlet. Disaster, as it floooded the underside of the sink, including the fridge electrics and then all our electric went off. ! Very helpful warden came and helped us isolate that it was the fridge tripping the mains but we still had no heatibg , We don't use gas heating due to OH health probs. and couldn't even get the fridge to work on gas as obviuosly the ignition for that had been soaked. Eventually got elec heating to work so we decided to stay on.
The next morning, I had a cunning ruse - rather than risk anymore water inside the van via the sink, I tacked the problem of the frozen waste from the outside. I had a 2m lentgh of water ipe that i use to fill the toilet flush . I stuck this in the xterior waste pipe and gradually filled it with boiling water and gradually could feel the ice blockage,(, probably at the bend underneath the van) . It took quite a while but evebntually IT started draining and we finished it off with hot water down the sink.
Our fridge and charger were still not working and we could fell that the insulation on top of the fridge was very wet still . Despiet Oh's reservations , I removed the sink and used a little blow heater to dry this out as best we could Also removed the winter fridge covers. First managed to get fridge working on gas , which also helped and then eventually everything came on!
Considering we thought we had buggerd our electrics , then the fridge I was really pleased.! the moral of this take is- the obvius one about atking your pump in and waste out but also having a wife who is prepared to lie on the ground in freezing weather poking under the van with a lenght of pipe! BTW, I am no spring chicken !
Cheers Siobhan
