ive got a problem ive got the water heater working now but the problem is when it comes on the water pours out of the van with a lot of steam any advice would be greatly appreciated ?

The drain valve is just a plastic "Stopper"with a rubber seal on it on the outside of the van..

It screws into the front plate at the bottom of the heater as shown here

May also be the seal inside the water cowling as when it gets hot it expands as ive read from a Trouble shooter site ? Maybe Gary from Arc systems may know about this .

depending on which heater you have installed, or how old your van is , yes, if the spring loaded  "thing "is near the water heater ,and hot water is being dumped out underneath the van , then yes the valve needs closing , by laying the leaver flat to the pipe.
