I have a 163bhp Mondeo towing a Lunar Clubman SB. It is a great tow car.. Bags of power and a very stable tug. You should have no problems with you combination.
Have the 2.0 140bhp titanium x with 35000 miles and serviced yesterday, rear brake pads replaced otherwise no other problems. The mondeo is a good tow car and towed our 2 berth swift with ease. Have changed to a 4 berth lunar and the mondeo handles the extra weight without difficulty. Have added a set of spring assisters to reduce rear end sag. May well go for the estate next year but if we cannot find the right car then its another mondeo hatch.
we have same car . 57 plate , tows great and good on juice. had 1 or 2 niggles , power start failed ( loose connection ) bonnet cable snapped ( common fault ) . 115k on clock so must be approaching doom on clutch / flywheel shortly.

They don't have a bonnet cable, the bonnet is opened with the key.

erm thats wrong information.....the mk4 does not have a key to open bonnet, the mk3 has this . its a lever under passenger side dash and release under the bonnet on the mk4 ,,, and when the cable gets dry at the bonnet catch end it snaps
